Tate Langdon Dating Headcanons

- Tate can be very soft and gentle, despite his hate for the world. Everything he does is justified by making you happier in the long run even if you don’t feel that way at the time. However, his personality can feel quite conflicting to you because of this.

- He can find romance in even the safest moments you spend together. The more the two of you confess the deepest of your secrets or experience hardships together he feels his bond grow to you. He romanticises the pain he feels but not intentionally - he just doesn’t know any different.

- Tate tries to take you out on dates as much as possible, but as he is of course dead he can’t exactly do that outside of Halloween. If the two of you are dating while he was still alive though, the two of you would have edgy but intimate dates with each other which are filled with tiny hidden meanings only the two of you would understand. 

- He is genuinely a child at heart. Whenever you would buy little toys for him or things for him to fidget with he’d act like a hyper child on caffeine. This applies to the amount of attention he needs from you too.

- Tate can get extremely insecure about his relationship with you very easily and quite often. Because of this, you are constantly reassuring him that you wouldn’t leave him for somebody else. He also gets quite jealous and protective of you in a very sadistic way - so be careful how you appear when Tate’s watching you with other people.

Tate is a Halloween nerd ladies

The only holiday he likes

Always seems a lil happier around this time of year!

He’d always make sure to rake the leaves outside the house and then later jump and play in them with Addie

Would want to decorate the entire house in spooky stuff

You and Addie teasing him about how his room was already Halloween ready

Takes you and Addie pumpkin picking and you all carve them together

Would probably carve something dumb or emo into his pumpkin like a meme or a sad line of poetry

Would wanna dress up and go to a party but doesn't feel included enough to attend one

Prefers to take Addie trick or treating and watch movies with you!!

Spooky movie nights would be a regular!!!!

Speaking of trick or treaters: Tate would be overly generous with the kids that knocked (cause not many of them tend to cause they get scared and that makes him sad)

He’d rent all the classics for you both to watch

Zombie movies are his favourites

Would definitely nerd out over George A. Romero movies

“They're way more scarier than jump scare movies ‘cause zombies are slow but they always seem to catch up with people in the end”

Would get you both tonnes of snacks but end up eating most of them himself

Complain he feels sick and convince you to play with his hair

He would probably try scaring you with a mask or something too not rubber man tho we don't stan rubber man!tate in this house 

And if he did so successfully it would turn into all out war

The whole of Autumn you would try to spook each other

Big mugs of hot chocolate, cuddles under soft blankets and sweet chatting to one another until you both fall asleep

Comforting you if you ever got unintentionally spooked by one of the house ghosts

Going on midnight walks and telling each other urban legends or scary stories

Warming your hands up by putting them under his armpits double points if you tickle him

FRIGHT NIGHTS!!

Would totally go nuts for the decoration way more rather than the spooks

*grabs your hand and immediately DIPS*

Takes SO many pics of you both and all the actors and sets

“take a picture of me and the welcome sign” “take a picture of me and this zombie” “take a picture of me and my coffee”

shouts and smiles and laughs very freely at these things

extra points if the fright fest has a live band 

extra EXTRA points if tate likes them

wrong timeline but would totally have all the junji ito books and you’d sit and read them together and get all grossed out and spooked

his chaotic ass would also probably try to convince you to do a ouija board

i just think tate would be in his element during halloween!!

My headcanons about Tate revolve entirely around having a more active peripheral awareness of the weirdness of Gravity Falls. Of knowing kind of what happened to his dad, and having vague memories of “Stanford Pines” that don’t match up with the current owner of the Mystery Shack, but still not going there out of principle. That building makes him feel wrong, down to his core. Him making up with his dad after Weirdmageddon and trying to make up for all the lost time and hard feelings between them. 

They also revolve around Tate not quite ever forgiving Ford for his part in his dad’s downward spiral. Despite saving the town, despite knowing his father forgave Ford, Tate doesn’t really let go of that anger for the scientist. He’s on good terms with Stanley, finally knowing why he had felt weird towards the Shack and the owner for years, despite not really disliking Stan himself. And having more than a few issues because of that dislike Tate has for Ford.

What if Tate had an awareness into the Society? He saw them around town, maybe not seeing how his dad was connected with them, but he knew what the group did. He noticed the patterns of people screaming about the lake monster—and the next day not having a clue and coming back. It was good for business, but it also had troubling implications. So he kept his head down. Hair long. And minded his own business. He didn’t react at the weird around town. He got mad when his dad did because he knew it wouldn’t end well for anyone. 

Tate McGucket kept his hair long and sweeping in front of his eyes so he’d never have the problem is dad had; seeing too much. His mind was far from clear, but it was the best he could do.
