im thinking of taking a short break or something from tumblr and just mainly use my roleplaying accounts im just seeing so much social justice crap its filling up half of my dashboard and ugh im so SICK of it

little rant here

alright i saw a post that basically called lord of the flies racist and sexist so instead of reblogging it and ranting as a comment im gonna rant in a post instead.

firstly, the book was published in 1954 by british author william golding. in the 50s, especially in britain, racism was a big deal. looking this year up, it was around the time of the civil rights movement, though that did take place in america. even so, black people in britain wasnt a very common thing.

secondly, golding was teaching at bishop wordsworth's school, an all-boys school. typically, writing about a group of boys would have been easier than writing about a group of girls.

so please, if you say that lord of the flies is about 'white, straight, male privilage' i will personally hunt you down because thats not what the book is about at all, nor does it have anything to do with it. the book is about human nature, survival of the fittest and personal survival versus doing what's right.

it really pisses me off when my parents say 'be more rebellious for once' and when i do they just scold me for it?? but when im not rebellious at all they say 'you should stop being so stiff all the time and be rebellious for once' like wtf
