I had a cute tamiops in the freezer that had really bad slip all over the body, but the fur it still had was incredibly soft and fluffy, so I did what any sane person would do: I turned it into a teeny tiny shouldermount. It'd look like a crumb on the wall if you put it next to a deer shouldermount
test fitting a handsome lad
Making the form for an alpaca cria shouldermount, made by casting the skull, sculpting a head form out of the cast, then wrapping woodwool for the neck, and finally carving the shoulders and foaming it all together. I'll do a test fit with the tanned skin tonight so I can hopefully put it all together tomorrow!
Time to get started with mounting this train wreck of a skin 🙃 It had been dead in the cage for several hours before it was found, and its cagemates started uh. Trying to get rid of the body. So it's missing an eyelid, half of the mouth, 2 toes, and there's more slipped spots than I care to count because I can't hide them all anyway. Fun!
Finally built myself a simple mounting stand (two of them, even) for small shouldermounts or wall mounts. Can't wait to try it out with this hare!

another set of k.tty paws in progress. here’s a comparison of a tanned paw shaped with clay vs unshaped. this guy was a gift from someone who i sourced reptiles from; the owner didn’t want him to go to waste after his death. i’m planning on doing a small square of pelt preservation and a head mount as well (the cat was VERY fatty, like a couple inches of fat on the skin fatty, so i didn’t want to fight with it for a full mount).
