Early Rain by Ezra Furman from the Sex Education Original Soundtrack
You’d say, “do you even try to remember the good times?”
And I’d say, “only every night when I’m still without your light”
Taylor Vick - Place That I Believe From
Boy Scouts: Wayfinder (Anti-, 2021)
Oakland, CA -- I’d say it’s pretty clear that I am super excited for Boy Scouts’ upcoming album Free Company. The newest track from the upcoming record is “Hate Ya 2,” a track that perfectly sums up why I love this band so much. The lyrics are honest as Taylor Vick sings, “I don’t know why I love you and I hate you too.” The melancholy nature of the lyrics are reflected in the lush instrumentation - it’s slow and steady but packs so much emotion.
Free Company is out August 30 via ANTI-.

This is our second time attempting to share this new Boy Scouts, that’s how obstinate we are in spreading the word about the new track and video despite encountering major technical difficulties after we wrote up the feature and tried to hit “post” yesterday. I can’t help but adore Taylor Vick’s voice on Expiration Date, so lithe and spindly, just like the guitars that accompany her on the band’s latest track from their next album, Free Company. The melodious yet frayed indie rock number leaves us wondering how we managed to miss out on Boy Scouts up till now. The best thing about Expiration Date? It doesn’t have an expiration date, and you can return to take in its crunchy fuzzed veneer again and again, for all of eternity. Expiration Date’s music video was directed by Madeline Kenney. Boy Scouts’ new album will be out on August 30th. Unfortunately, we missed out on Boy Scouts when they played Phono Del Sol earlier this summer, a local festival presented by Noise Pop and The Bay Bridged. However, Boy Scouts will be touring with fellow local act Jay Som this fall. The Oakland lineup hits San Francisco on September 14th when they bless The Fillmore with their presence. San Francisco, CA -- There is truly something so magical about stumbling upon an artist in the smallest way and falling in love with them for a life time. For me, that is the connection that I felt with Boy Scouts. I stumbled upon her music while listening to a fellow college DJ’s radio show and I couldn’t stop listening since...and it’s been a full year. Since I last posted, Boy Scouts released a four-track EP Mood Rings and a mini record titled Hobby Limit. I’ve been re-listening to her music these past couple days and I’ve fallen in love with the song “St. Francis Fountain”. I love the mellowness on this track and the heavy strumming of the guitar. There’s a gorgeous build on this song and it just packs so much emotion for me. It’s just over four-minutes long and I love the lo-fi quality to the track, even the abrupt ending which just adds to the charm of Boy Scouts.

San Francisco, CA -- An indie artist that I’ve fallen in love with over the last couple months is Boy Scouts. I’ve been listening to her latest album Homeroom Breakfast for the past two months and it just blows me away. One of my favorite songs on the album is “July 9 2015″ - there is a honesty in the lyrics and the songwriting that connects with me on a deeper level. Boy Scouts recently shared a music video for the track which features a bunch of cool footage cut together. There’s a quaintness to the video that matches wonderfully with the music.
