End of week 1                                (1.1)

Today marks the end of my first week on tumblr. I have learnt a lot about so many things this past week.

One of the many things I’ve learnt this week is the strength of human empathy, solidarity and love. How an entire community of people from around the globe support a cause, which though simple in nature(basic human rights) has still not been implemented in it’s true sense. 

I’ve felt this not only on a large scale, as the protesters continue to fight for our cause, but on a smaller level too. I have seen awareness, support and hope being spread throughout the platform and more specifically our fandom. Being part of a fandom that addresses these issues is invigorating. Being part of this fandom that supports the right causes and spreads awareness is something I am proud of. 

I have learnt how privileged I am to live in a country,which though not void of problems, does not make the color of your skin a reason to be afraid. I have learnt to be thankful that I don’t have to worry about my safety because of my skin. I have learnt to support the people who do face these problems and say aloud that BLACK LIVES MATTER.

I know I’m pretty late but I noticed something..

2+1+4 = 7(Lover is the 7th album)

214+13 = 227 - 2/27 (the day the music video for the man was released) 

0000- 4 zeroes and “The Man” is track 4

Also 2/14 is valentines day(Lover) and the video dropped 13 days later.

Blank Space Memories!!

It’s 2015.

I’m in 8th grade.

The entire class is singing, sorry screaming the lyrics of blank space in music class.

If all 50 of us can agree on one thing, it’s that we’re still jamming to that song 2015 days later. 

I’m sure most of your best memories of blank space would be on tour, in a stadium, singing with 50,000 others. Living in a country Taylor has never toured, this is one of my best memories of the song. :)

HALSEY!!

Apart from Taylor, Halsey is one of my favorite artists.

She’s an amazing lyricist, singer and artist. Like Taylor, she’s always written her own lyrics and showed us her vulnerable side. She takes me into another world, separate from Taylor’s, yet just as spellbinding. Her music is constantly changing and it’s just been getting better. 

She has always stood up for what she believes in, for black lives and women’s’ rights, supported other artists in the industry and spread awareness about mental health, bipolar disorder, endometriosis. She has never backed down and has always been apologetically herself.   

And lastly,her friendship with Taylor is everything!! From how she sites Taylor as one of the reasons she’s always chosen to write her lyrics, to having her back in one of her worst times, to throwing a surprise birthday par’tay’ for her.

Dear Taylor,

Hi! My name is Yashi. There’s so much I’d love to tell you, so much I want you to know. So I’ll start from the very beginning. 

Growing up, I never really heard a lot of English music. Even with my limited knowledge of English music, I did know that you are a famous singer and I’d heard “Love Story” a couple of times when I was younger.

All that changed when I came to the seventh grade. That was in 2014. You’d released “Shake it off” and a few months later “Blank Space” became a single. Both of those songs were huge in my school. So my best friend( Diya, who like me barely knew you at the time) and I decided to watch the music videos and listen to those two songs. Honestly, that was all it took and the two of us never looked back.

Your music helped our bond grow stronger. By the time eighth grade started, we’d heard all your singles, watched all your music videos and our go-to song became- “I’m only me when I’m with you” because it was exactly how we felt knowing everything about each other. We’ ed discuss your songs on the bus ride to school, sing them in the corridors, and never stop obsessing over you. Your music became the soundtrack of our lives. 

Everything was perfect until it wasn’t. Diya’s dad got a transfer to California and at the end of eighth grade, we were forced to say goodbye. It was hard. Not having the one person you told everything to, by your side, was one of the hardest things I’ve faced. For months I missed her terribly and at the time my biggest source of comfort was your music. Listening to your music brought back all the good memories, all the happy times and it just made me so much happier. 

That’s when I knew that I would never stop loving you. My friends and your music helped me through some of my darkest times, so how could I not stand with you. This was in 2016, around the same period the whole Kimye drama happened and I did get a lot of hate from classmates in school for standing up for you. It didn’t matter what they said. I believed in you. 

Things got better with time. As you said- “ It seems like the pressure that could have crushed us made us into diamonds instead. What didn't kill us actually did make us stronger.”(Billboard woman of decade acceptance speech) I was happy again and you helped me get there. I cannot express how grateful I am to have had your music, thank you so very much!  Even now when I talk to Diya, even with all the things that have changed, your music has and never will stop being a part of our lives. 

So this is the story of how I came to know of you, how you became a part of my life and helped me through my toughest times. I haven’t even started on how much your lyrics mean to me or how you’ve inspired me to write myself or how you’ve influenced me and there’s still so much to say. But I guess that’ll have to part of another letter(this one is already excruciatingly long).

Enchanted

My favorite song from speak now, Enchanted is by far the best song I’ve heard about meeting someone who completely mesmerized you the first time you met them.

It describes every emotion you’d feel and I personally relate to it. The happiness when they’re talking to you, how you wish your time with them never ends, the joy you get when you reminisce about them, the hope that they like you back the same way, the anxiety of not knowing who they love, the fear that they love someone else, the knowledge that “your thoughts will echo their name, until you see them again”, it’s all described so perfectly.

Every time I listen to this song,memories come flooding back of this one person. He made me feel the same way about 2 years ago. We’re good friends but he still doesn't know I like him. If I were ever to tell him, I’d send him this song so he’ed know exactly how he made me and still makes me feel. But until then I’ll keep dancing round all alone in my bedroom when I think of him. :)
