New headcanon for The Cabin in the Woods

What if the Buckners were the first victims of the cabin?? As in the evil scientists used to experiment with their ritual, until one year when they decided to target the Buckner family as their victims. There's the father, the two brothers and the mother and sister. The mother could be the representative "whore" and Patience could be the "virgin/final girl" The evil scientists targeted them with possessive demons, which possessed the father and brothers and made them kill the mother first. Patience tried to defeat the evil somehow, gets her arm cut off in the process, and ultimately dies. Maybe the ancients were so amused by the Buckners that they turned them into zombies and entered them into the collection.

This could also be an alternate explanation at the end of the movie when Patience comes to the ritual lair and kills the director. She could have been seeking vengeance for her family...

It's not a full proof theory, but it's kinda fun to think about how the previous rituals went.

Marty Mikalski and Topher Brink are basically the same person but also the complete opposite from each other

They're both very smart in pretty similar ways (perceptive + technology), have very similar mannerisms and talk in the same way for example. And yea theyre played by the same actor and you could say Fran Kranz just plays the same character every time but I checked and that's not true at all. Marty and Topher just have a very similar vibe and I know im not the only person who noticed. They also both began as the comic relief character and ended up suffering most of the story.

But theyre also complete opposites of each other. Marty is the one being manipulated, Topher is the one manipulating. Marty is super loyal and caring to his friends and lets Dana get attacked by a werewolf at the end to save his own life, Topher starts out as a complete dick who doesnt care about people and ends up sacrificing himself for his friends and the world. Marty lets the apocalypse happen out of loyalty to his murdered friends and self-preservation, Topher ends the apocalypse because he learned that people are more important than progress & technology

And yet they're both the hero in the story. They start and end at opposite places and they basically have opposite arcs but even though he let the apocalypse happen despite being able to stop it Marty is not a villain but still the hero. He lets the world get destroyed and Topher saves it but they're both the hero of their own story, mostly because the cabin in the woods is basically saying "fuck (horror) conventions im not dying to keep them up" and dollhouse is saying "this cool tech is also dangerous and people come first" but the meaning behind the story shows in both characters too. I was kinda worried that I’d have to see Marty as a villain with this comparison but not dying a heroic death doesn’t make you a villain and it alll depends on the movie’s meaning anyway

So yea my headcanon is theyre the same character in parallel universes and they maybe got adopted by different parents (so their names are different), Topher never got into smoking weed/stopped earlier and they just lived their lives differently but theyre still the same
