Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and even ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.
He dreams of smoke, moving sluggishly all around the dark room. It’s thick with incense- of chamomile and lemon balm- the taste of basil thick on his tongue, billowing around something. No someone. But he can’t see who it is in the haze, just glimpses of mocha colored curves. With lilac silk sheets wrapped around it, contrasting beautifully against their skin, and flashes of dark curls.
And he’s wracked with a sense of desperateness and urgency, a hollow ache in chest, as he tries to reach out for whoever it is, no she is, but every time she’s just out of the reach of his fingertips. And the sensation of being yanked away starts, but he doesn’t want to go yet. As he’s being further dragged away from her, his heart feels heavier, and he’s hears melodic whispers of “Kai, let go,” but he doesn’t know a Kai. What does Kai need to let go of? By then it’s too late.
“-ongin. Jongin, wake up!”
He jerks up with a loud gasp, eyes fluttering open rapidly. Sweat coating his face and neck, pooling in his clavicles, the taste still stuck on his tongue. Jongin ran his fingers through his damp hair, sighing. I haven’t had such strange dreams before. Everything felt so real “Are you alright Jongin-ah? You look flustered.” one of his parent’s servant spoke, pulling him out of his daze. “I’m fine Imo, just an interesting dream, it left me a little… shaken.” He answered back sheepishly to the woman who was like a mother to him. “Well if you’re fine, get up and get dressed, you’re going to be late for breakfast baby bear,” she said briskly yet affectionately, while brushing a strand of hair out of his face.
And on that note, Jongin’s day began. He got up from bed, starting towards the ensuite bathroom -while his Imo left the room with a kiss to his forehead. Trying to put the dream out of his mind, ignoring the ache he still felt in his chest. After showering and finishing the rest of his morning routine, he made his way downstairs towards the dining hall. Passing by bustling maids and servants, and greeting them back, to find the Royal family already at the table, oh joy.
The Queen sipping her morning tea, and the King, eating his food passive aggressively, looking stoic as ever. And the princesses already gossiping amongst themselves, he took the seat furthest away from all of them. “Jongin, I’m surprised you’re even here. No whores for the night?” his mother spoke in a monotone. Wow not even a fake good morning this time? Times must be changing. Words like that don’t even phase him anymore, he’s heard worse.
“Good morning, mother and father, yes I slept well thank you for the concern.” he responded with a smirk on his face, only clenching his jaw slightly to refrain from saying something worse. His father dropped his utensils to the half-eaten plate noisily, demanding attention. Jongin’s sisters flinch at the noise, turned from their gossip to the king, ready for the new drama to arise. And here we go.
“Jongin, I just don’t understand why you won’t act like a man, and own up to his responsibilities. Why you act like a spoiled brat.” he sneered out, tone heavy with unveiled anger, tossing one of the many news articles that held news updates about ‘The Playboy Prince.’ Asking the questions that were on everyone’s mind: The Heir having another late-night escapade?? Is he being corrupted?? Is he actually fit to be King?? The King’s fist clenched at the sides of his plate on the table, eyeing his disappointment of a son. Jongin calmly started cutting into breakfast omelet, spearing another piece, all while holding eye contact with his so-called father, whose face was steadily turning red in anger.
“Because I don’t want the crown. I don’t want the responsibilities, I didn’t ask for this life. You could easily go pick up one of your many bastard sons to take my place instead.” while plopping the last piece of food in his mouth. All chatter from the kitchen stopped, so quiet you could hear a pin. Satisfied with the mess he created, he decided it was best to go explore the city now. Scooting his chair back from the table, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I must see a man about a dog, I bid you adieu.” finished off with a mock bow, and leaving the scene. But not without blowing a kiss to all the bewildered faces, and grabbing his coat.
Hours later, Jongin found himself in the company of his childhood best friends, at his dongsaeng’s house complaining woefully about his troubles to just about anyone who would listen, and both of them were sick of it. Yixing and Sehun made eye contact over Jongin from where he was sprawled on the futon in the maknae’s room, holding a conversation with their eyes. Coming to an agreement, that something needed to be done. “Yah, Kim Jongin shut up, we’re going out!” Yixing popped up from his place on the bed beside Sehun with an excited clap, cutting Jongin off mid whine, the maknae following soon after him. “Hyung,” dragging out the syllable, “where are we going?”
Jongin pushed himself up, stretching his long limbs, after hours of nonuse. “Somewhere fun, you got any cash on you Hyung?” Sehun inquired, a corner of his lip ticked up in amusement, but the dark twinkle in his eyes held nothing but mischief. Yixing started grinning, already knowing where this was going, gathering his things. Jongin was still confused, but didn’t question them, getting himself ready to leave as well. And before he could respond to the maknae’s question, Yixing cut in, “Don’t worry kids, Ge will provide for you. Let’s go!”
Joking around with each other in the bustling nightlife of Seoul, the young prince was still curious as to where he was being treated to, taking mental notes about the route, knowing his friends it could be anything and everything could go wrong. People stared as they walked by, being royal meant eyes were always on you, never having time to yourself, people always in your business. He tried to ignore the pondering gazes as best as he could, but it was making him slightly uncomfortable. He just wanted to be free. And his friends sensing his mood, “Just a little further, Jongin-ah.” Sehun murmured gently. By this point, no one else was around them, only streetlights and empty buildings could be seen. Christ, they’re taking me to a brothel.
“There’s nothing here, where is it?” the prince asked puzzled. Yixing turned to him smirking, “So, we found this place by accident one day and it was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. And you need to chill somewhere the cameras won’t find you, besides our houses, so here is our gift to you.-” he said, while shoving a stack of bills into Jongin’s pocket. “One million won, just for you, don’t say I never did anything for you.” Checking to make sure no one was in sight again, he pulled his dongsaeng by the arm into an alley, where there was a flashing neon gold light that read The Nile.
“You brought me to a club?” Jongin implored in complete disbelief, because the way they had been talking about this place, like it was the holy grail. They had been to several clubs before, what’s so special about this one? “Not just a club little Ni-Ni..,” he trailed off, letting go of his arm, and knocking three firm times on what he guessed to be the entrance to the club. The prince groaned at the nickname. As soon as his fist left the door, a small rectangular peep door slid open, a gruff voice spoke out, “Password.” Yixing skipped forward, beaming at Sehun, bringing a full grin to his handsome face. “There’s a thief out on the move.”
The door slammed shut, as you could hear a series of locks being a undone. All the boys took a step back, when the door swung open, the person who opened it was no where insight. Jongin could immediately feel the low bass of the music in his bones, as soon as he stepped over the threshold, an unexplainable emotion, an aura of power, fell over him, swallowing him whole, so strong it almost caused him stagger. The hollow ache in his chest, that he felt in his dream is back.
“I watch you fix your hair
Then put your panties on in the mirror, Cleopatra
Then your lipstick, Cleopatra
Then your six-inch heels, catch her
She’s headed to the pyramid”
