I LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it's been over a year🫣
Thanks for those who are still reading this.
I've moved stores, gone back to my first love of community theatre, and finally had my foot surgery. I am currently in month 4 of my supposed 3 months off work... Surgery went well, the foot was more damaged than they could see on the MRI and it was a very big surgery to begin with, so its taking a long time to heal. I may even be out of the moon boot indefinitely by the end of the week🤞
If you need an update of where we're at, which, fair, I'd suggest re-reading the previous two chapters.
I'd love to hear your comments or any thoughts you might have, I honestly have been working on this story and am just struggling with the timelines of things but I do have up to chapter 34 written, in bits and pieces. It's now just making sure all those bits and pieces are joined together seamlessly and make sense within the timeline of events.
Also it's been so long since I've written or had to use my brain like this I typed the word phone the other day as "fown" 🤦♀️

AN: This is the end of part one, folks! Originally I was going to do two more chapters with their leave, but due to not working on this for a while (new job, moving, etc) this felt like a good ending point for this part of the Traveling Soldier AU. There will be more parts! But I do have a few more fics to cycle through first.
Thank you so much for your patience with this gap between chapters, I'm finally getting back to a schedule of sorts with my creative endeavors. - Dee
AN2: Much thanks to @randomkiwibirds, @theloversthedreamersandme82, @blossom--of--snow, and @olafur-neal for being my constant cheerleaders throughout this whole process (started in 2020... WHAT)

Well, circumstances turned out better than expected, so here is my entry for @blakesecretsanta2021. This is for you, @yesmadamepresident!
The prompt was “Jean/Lucien, first “I love you.” Bonus points if I get to hear the other person say it too, whether or not it takes some time is up to you.”
Summary: Four times Lucien says “I love you,” and one time Jean says it back.
I hope you enjoy this! Very merry happy Blakemas to you and everyone who participated!

Summary:
The eternal question of what happened in Adelaide. My gift for @love-letters-x-cardigan-sweaters, for Blake Secret Santa 2021!
My prompt was What happened in Adelaide? And while I know far better writers have answered this question than I, I did my best to give my interpretation. I hope you enjoy it!
This is my contribution to the Blake Secret Santa 2021 for @funkybetsy. (I hope you like it!) My prompt was "Lucien just being an idiot and needing to make it up to Jean. I’ll let the writer have freedom to surprise me within that"
Thank you @blakesecretsanta2021 for organising the gift exchange. I loved being part of it!
I couldn't let this wee idea go without playing a little. It stems from the brainstorming I was doing for the prompt I received from @gabolange from the @blakesecretsanta2021 gift exchange.
It's a little drabbley bit for the end of 3.6.
Somethings was wrong. He felt it the second he walked through the door, but glancing around, nothing was notably different; everything was as it should be. There wasn’t a speck of dust or a thing out of place. The smell in the air was familiar, clean and subtly antiseptic with notes of Jean’s cooking.
And maybe that was it. Blake had answered the door, not Jean.
Now, falling into step behind the man, he noticed that Lucien’s pace was slow and strangely hesitant. His posture was stiff, and there was a subtle slump in his shoulders, the beginnings of defeat in the bend of his neck. He had his hands balled into fists at his sides.
Something was wrong.
Jean stood at the sideboard, her spine as straight as a pin. Turning as they came in, she looked over her shoulder and smiled tightly, a smile that didn’t reach her wet eyes. “Matthew.” Her voice sounded strained as it cut through the silence. The tension in the air, hanging with the weight of something unspoken, and he wondered what he had just walked into.
She gave Blake a fleeting glance and turned back to the counter.
Trusting his intuition, he began imagining what may have transpired between the two of them before he arrived and felt overcome with an urge to strike the man, but looking to Lucien only confused him more. A troubled expression clouded Blake's features; lost in thought, he absently starred ahead, his eyes focused on a piece of paper that sat on the table.
Cautiously and as casually as possible, Matthew asked, "everything alright, Jean?"
Wringing her hands, she turned around again. "Yes," breathless with the threat of emotion. "I've just popped the kettle on," and quickly cleared her throat. "Tea?"
Satisfied that something wasn't imminently wrong, he relaxed and accepted her offer with a smile and a nod.
"I'll be just... " her voice trailed off as she half-heartedly pointed, stepping towards the table. Collecting the piece of paper Blake was fixating on, she walked past them both. The colour had risen in her cheeks. "I won't be a moment."
Blake watched her go, his eyes following her long after she left the room, and then he let out a defeated sigh.
Knowing that something was wrong, Matthew asked, "have I interrupted something?"
"No," Lucien's face remained blank as he turned to his old friend.
"Have you done something?" He tried asking the same question a different way—his ire simmering, ready to rise.
Lucien extended his hand, gesturing for Matthew to take a seat at the table. "Nothing," he answered as he dropped himself into his chair with the energy of a sullen child. "And that's the point, isn't it." He continued wryly, crossing his arms over his chest, "I've done nothing and now..." The rhythmic sound of Jean's heels hitting the floor caused Lucien to stop midthought.
She re-entered the room with a seemingly renewed spirit. "Sorry about that," she murmured a hollow apology as she moved around Lucien to join them at the table.
Blake watched her as she lowered herself down into her chair, and once settled, Jean glanced at him quickly, offering him a feeble smile. Slow to respond, Lucien smiled back, but he was too late. "Matthew," Jean had shifted her attention, gracefully setting aside her worries. "It's lovely to see you. I had no idea you were back in town."
His eyes moved back and forth between the pair of them; something was definitely wrong.
