OCTAVIA SPENCER & HANNAH WADDINGHAM in RIDE OR DIE (Season 1)
Saw this on FB and tried to find the original, which I haven't, but the point is so solid.
Shout out to trans women who arenât computer scientists or musicians or avant-garde artists or whatever.
Shout-out to tgirls who work at Taco Bell. Thank u queen, society would collapse without you
Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the âgay Taco Bellâ, but since I was coming from the âgay Howard Johnsonâsâ I wasnât shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And theyâd worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the âgay Taco Bellâ on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they havenât changed much in 20 years. Iâm still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your cityâs version of the âgay Taco Bellâ is key to survival.
Thank u for sharing this with us
Wait! Look at these cuties!!!
BIG Argument prompts List!!!
âą "Don't you dare stand there and pretend you didn't know exactly what you were doing."
âą "I built my entire world around you. You didn't even notice it crumbling."
âą "Say it again. Say it to my face this time."
âą "I'm not angry. I'm just so, so tired of being disappointed by you."
âą "We don't have to do this right now. We never have to do this again."
âą "You remember everything except the things that actually mattered."
âą "I keep waiting for you to be the person I fell in love with. I think I need to stop waiting."
âą "Don't tell me to calm down. I have every right to be exactly this."
âą "I defended you. Every single time. I stood there and defended you."
âą "You want me to forgive you? Give me one reason I should."
âą "I can't look at you right now without seeing everything you took from me."
âą "There are things you said to me that I will carry for the rest of my life. That's on you."
âą "You didn't save me. Stop telling people you saved me."
âą "I'm not the villain in your story just because I stopped letting you write mine."
âą "Do you hear yourself? Do you ever actually listen to the words coming out of your mouth?"
âą "I grieved you while you were still standing right in front of me."
âą "You always know exactly what to say to make it worse. That's a talent, truly."
âą "I don't want an apology. I want you to understand what you did."
âą "You left and I still made excuses for you. What does that say about me."
âą "Just because you're hurting doesn't give you the right to make everyone else bleed."
âą "I trusted you with the parts of me I never show anyone. And you used them."
âą "There's a version of us I still think about. It just doesn't have you in it."
âą "You don't get to be the one who comforts me right now. Not after this."
âą "I'm not broken. Stop looking at me like I'm something you need to fix."
âą "All I ever asked was for you to stay. That's all. And you couldn't even give me that."
âą "Don't call it a misunderstanding. You knew. You always knew."
âą "I watched you choose everything else and tell yourself it wasn't a choice."
âą "Maybe I should've said nothing. I spent years saying nothing and look where that got us."
âą "You can leave whenever you want. The door works just fine, as you know."
âą "I'm not the same person who would've let you speak to me like that. Adjust accordingly."
âą "She needed you and you weren't there. I needed you and you weren't there. Do you see a pattern?"
âą "I don't hate you. Hating you would mean you still matter."
âą "Go ahead. Walk away. You've had enough practice."
âą "I'm not doing this to punish you. I'm doing this because I finally stopped punishing myself."
âą "You want credit for the bare minimum. Congratulations. You existed. Here's a medal."
âą "I have loved you past the point of reason. Past the point of dignity. Don't make me regret it more than I already do."
âą "There were a hundred moments where you could've told me the truth. You chose none of them."
âą "I keep having this dream where we're fine. And then I wake up."
âą "You were the one person who was supposed to understand. And you didn't even try."
âą "I will never let you make me feel small again. I want you to know that."
âą "Don't follow me. And don't pretend it's because you care."
âą "She's my sister. Whatever you did to get here, you leave her out of it."
âą "I forgave you the first time because I loved you. The second time because I was scared. There won't be a third."
âą "Some people are wounds. I didn't know that about you until it was too late."
âą "You broke something in me. I'm not sure you deserve to know what it was."
âą "Say you're sorry like you mean it or don't say it at all."
âą "I kept every letter. Every one. I don't know why I'm telling you that."
âą "This is the last time I let you close enough to do this."
âą"You think I don't know? I've known for months. I just kept waiting to see if you'd tell me yourself."
âą "I don't even want an explanation anymore. I want you to sit with what you did."
âą "I miss who I was before I let you convince me I was too much."
âą "You talked about forever like it was nothing. I guess it was."
âą "I don't need you to fight my battles. I need you to stop causing them."
âą "Please don't tell me this is for the best. You don't get to narrate this for me."
âą "We could've been something good. You decided we weren't going to be."
âą "She cried and you laughed it off. I need you to understand why that was unforgivable."
âą "Put the blame wherever you need to. We both know the truth."
âą "You think this is a fight. I think this is a funeral."
âą "You have no idea how hard I've worked to become someone you can't hurt."
âą "I used to think if I loved you harder it would be enough. It was never the problem."
âą "You don't get to call it grief if you're the one who caused it."
âą "I would've given you the world. I think that's exactly why you left."
âą "I'm exhausted by the version of me that still hopes for better from you."
âą "All those promises. You said them like you meant them. Did you ever mean any of them?"
âą "She was my best friend before she was anything to you. Remember that."
âą "I used to think you were the one person who would never lie to me. Live and learn."
âą "You don't get to come back here with that face and expect me to fall apart again."
âą "I am so tired of loving people who can only love themselves."
âą "I'm not scared of you anymore. I need you to know that's not a threat, it's a goodbye."
âą "You wanted a version of me that doesn't exist. I nearly destroyed myself trying to become her."
âą "Just go. And this time, mean it."
She ainât even lying
today I found out my mother doesnât know what dandelions are and now Iâm wondering what other strange secrets sheâs been quietly harboring
Where do you live that you donât have dandelions?
we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation
So after extensive interrogation I have an update:
my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.
the truth is actually weirder
sheâs aware dandelions look like this
she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions
she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?
she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.
gosh I enjoy this website
For comparison, this is a daffodil
See, folks in the southern US will tell you up and down those are buttercups, actually.
i donât think so? iâm southern and buttercups are what we call these things (much tinier)
Wait I thought those bigger cup ones were Easter Lillies???
This is an Easter Lily. It is an actual lily and therefore deadly to cats.
Theyâre marigolds and I know a bitch when I see one!
This is a marigold:
âŠ.we need to start taking the phrase âgo touch grassâ more literally. go outside and examine a flower i beg u
:C
Iâm so fucking sick of AI
Given that it's very clearly his work and they're making profit from it, I wonder if he has a lawsuit.
for no reason whatsoever hereâs a reminder that if you consider yourself a leftist/punk/abolitionist/anarchist/radical in any sort of way and get called into jury duty, you are to become the most square person on earth during the jury questionnaire!!!
donât be that guy who says fuck the police in the jury questionnaire! that just gets you sent home! if you want to generate change, interact with the case and use your jury vote for good! ESPECIALLY if itâs a high profile case!
Remember, when you're on the jury, a good "that cop's story didn't add up" will sway a lot more Chads and Karens than "fuck the police."
Had jury duty, can confirm!
An innocent man is home with his family instead of spending his kids' whole childhoods in jail for "resisting arrest" when none of the cops could agree on why he was being arrested in the first place. (But it definitely had nothing to do with him being a Black man in a nice car, honest! đ)
And it still took like two hours of delibration after we'd heard all the evidence because one lady was so gung ho about believing everything the cops said, even when not a single goddamn one could agree with their own testimony, let alone their colleagues'.
Pointing out all the inconsistencies and admitted misconduct and letting people slowly come to their own conclusions as the trial played out was fucking hard, I won't lie. I can be patient, but it doesn't come naturally to me.
But. Yelling about how this was obviously a bs case would have shut everyone down and made them stop listening. Asking questions and letting people discuss how the cops tried to make xyz sound suspicious but it was totally normal, or about how if things played out the way the cops said then logically events should have proceeded in a totally different direction, and positing different theories that actually lined up with the evidence presented?
That got people thinking, and everyone realized that for a variety of reasons we all had reasonable doubts that the defendent had committed any of the crimes of which he was accused.
Being able to raise reasonable doubt among a jury of one's peers saves lives. If you get the chance, take it.
"Jury Room / The Holdout" (1959) by Norman Rockwell. One of my favorites of his. Particularly the gendered dynamic he depicts here.
Today I saw a leaf that looked like a frog and I was like haha nice and then it hopped because it WAS a frog and I started crying bc life is really full of everyday miracles including but not limited to experiencing frogs
you got camouflaged dude. If you were frog prey...... hoooo boy
my family is lucky enough to own a 26 acre mountain property, log cabin and all. Most people would go up there and think that it is fairly pristine nature. Thereâs the cabin, and a few dirt roads for 4-wheelers, but the surrounding woods look untouched.
But we actually carefully maintain that nature. We cut down the deadfall. We pull invasive plants. We trim the elderberry bushes. We get more animals than almost anywhere else on the mountain because we put up salt licks and water troughs.
some of these same things are true of national parks. A lot of places that you think of as âuntouched wildernessâ are influenced heavily by human care and maintenance. And this isnât a bad thing. We are animals too. In many ways, our ecosystems depend on us to keep them healthy. Many âwildâ plants that are useful for food or building materials are actually semi-domesticated because indigenous groups cared for them and encouraged their growth so they do better with human care.
we have a place in nature. We just need to be conscious of our actions.
EDIT: since this post took off, I thought I should add some sources
Patches of forest cleared and tended by Indigenous communities but lost to time still show more food bounty for humans and animals than surr
For many millenia, fire was integral to many Indigenous peoplesâ way of life. This page describes ways Indigenous people used fire in the pa
Most land on Earth has been shaped by humans for at least 12,000 years, suggesting low intensity land use is compatible with preserving biod
Also a disclaimer that I am not indigenous or an ecologist. I am putting time and effort into learning, but I am not an expert.
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
Im enjoying the longevity of tumblrs recontextualization style of humor. a seemingly innocuous post followed by like "posts that a gnome would make" or like "are you a phone"
