It’s a modern day au with magic
Adora is deaf
It takes place in one city called Bright Moon
Criminal Kingpin Hector Reeves “Hordak” is killed from overdosing on a new recreational drug called “Stallos”.
His death creates a power vacuum, causing two formerly neutral gangs to start a war as each respective leader attempts to fill the position
Surveillance has pictures of a cat hybrid woman named “Catra” selling the drug on the street
The “Stallos” gives non-magic users a sort of fake power, an echo of what actual users get. For those who can use magic it gives them a huge (albeit temporary) boost to their abilities. It’s highly addictive and very volatile.
There aren’t many magic users, those who can use magic have to be registered
Adora is not registered
Adora is a young detective initially tasked with investigating an alternative explanation for the death of Hordak
Adora is told to stop investigating Hordak’s death and when she fails to comply she is fired.
Angella (Adora’s captain) tells Adora she was getting heat from above to drop the investigation, but now she wants Adora to go undercover to figure out what’s going on.
‘monster’ hybrids like Catra and Scorpia are considered thugs by the ‘upstanding’ citizens of Bright Moon
Shadow Weaver is the head of the Cult, one of the gangs part of a bigger organization called the Horde
Weaver absolutely loathes Catra, but she’s the Cult’s biggest earner so she can’t get rid of her
The first time Catra sees Adora she tries to sleep with her
