of course! here’s one from a story i wrote for english last year, set around the cuban missile crisis:

“We’re gonna die tonight,” he explains, sure of himself, “and I don’t think I would have forgiven myself if I didn’t tell you. I mean, we tell each other everything.” He laughs hollowly. 

I’d give anything for his laugh to be filled with the actual joy it once held, to not be lifeless, but of course it is, because the Soviets secretly setting up missiles in Cuba was a direct attack against me to ruin my life in a political Rube Goldberg scheme leading directly to Alex’s commie dad basically telling him point blank to confess to me and fuck everything up. If his dad hadn’t gotten word of the end of the world, we all could have been blown to bits in peace.

“Yeah. We tell each other everything,” I repeat.
