I'm still making a winter coat inspired by Ethari's design, am still indecisive, and am once again asking tumblr for help with decisions. The explanation for this one is longer but I feel it's important. This is the fabric I have for the purple accents:

It is SUPER dark. Like almost the same tone as the navy blue wool I have for the base. But I realized that the purple on Ethari's outfit is much lighter, even lighter than the metal accents. My phone camera hates me but here's the best photo I've been able to get of all 3 colors compared to the original colors:

I'm super torn on whether or not to get a lighter purple fabric for a number of reasons. 1) when I bought the lining fabric for the coat I found that the quality of kona cotton has drastically decreased in the time since I got this purple fabric, AND the price has increased by $2/yard. (at least, the quality from my favorite store's supplier has. I really doubt I'd have better luck if I went somewhere else tho, fabric quality is universally shit these days.) 2) I'm not the biggest fan of high contrast patterns in my wardrobe, especially light on dark, & the fact this is a fandom project is secondary to it's functionality. 3) despite all that, I want to be true to Ethari's design because I love it & him. 4) Also this color combo almost too low contrast even for me, especially considering how much time I'm going to put into hand sewing everything on. I want people to actually be able to see my work.

So. Should I get a lighter purple fabric to match the original colors or stick with what I've got?

Before the examples a quick note: The coat's sleeves will be gathered, not have the V shape Ethari's sleeve hems do. Doesn't make too big a difference but is worth keeping in mind

So in Bloodmoon Huntress, Ethari speaks about how he only wants to protect those close to him, while Runaan wants to protect everyone and Ethari says he could never do that. It’s funny because with their personalities, you’d think it would be the other way around.

Then it hit me that’s probably where their disagreement with Rayla came in.

For as much as Runaan loved Rayla, he couldn’t just see her as a daughter. She was his apprentice, his student, an assassin. Since he is so hell bent on honor and protecting everyone, he allows her to come knowing full well the main reason she wants to go isn’t because of duty but because she wants to prove herself. Runaan had other assassins to look after.

Since Ethari values those close to him so much, he truly knew Rayla’s heart. He saw past tradition, saw past the assassin, and saw his daughter.

I really wish we could have known how that conversation between Ethari and Runaan went down, it COULD NOT have been pretty.
