Hold Fast - Chapter Three
“Hey,” she giggled when he leaned into her hand, his eyes slowly blinking open. “Sleep well?”
“Better next to you,” he mumbled, smiling at her. His eyes sparkled when he looked at her, even in his half-asleep state.
“Sap,” Rayla pressed her lips to his cheek.
“Sap is… sticky,” Callum hummed, his eyes drifting shut again. “So… I wanna… stick to you.”
“Dummy,” Rayla snickered. “You’re not so good at the clever comments when you’re half asleep, smooth prince.”
“Not a prince,” Callum protested, swatting at her. “So mean.”
“Faerie prince,” she laughed when he rolled over, glaring playfully at her. “I’m not going to stop, pouting isn’t going to change my mind.”
He huffed, wrapping his arms around her middle and nuzzling closer. “Fine. Snuggles make up for it.”
“What if I don’t want to snuggle?” she had to bite back a giggle at the offended look he threw at her.
“What have you done with Rayla?” he asked, playfully tickling her side. “When have you ever not wanted snuggles?”

Chapter Two of Hold Fast!
“What was that for?” he whined, looking up at Rayla, who was half smirking, half glaring down at him. With a small flicker of pride, he noted that his cloak was still firmly around her shoulders.
“Making sure you didn’t get any funny ideas,” she snapped.
“No funny ideas, promise, only pain,” he coughed, wincing. “Did you have to kick me so hard?”
A flicker of remorse crossed her face and she offered him a hand, pulling him to his feet. “Sorry. I guess I’m a bit… jumpy.”
He shrugged, smiling at her. She looked so pretty in the morning, her eyes and hair almost sparkling in the soft sunlight. “No real harm done, only to my pride. And I didn’t care much about that to begin with.”
“Nor did you have any, after last night,” she snickered.
He rolled his eyes, cheeks flushing. “Yes, I suppose seeing me scrabbling across the ground, fearing for my life isn’t my best introduction in the world.”
“Not particularly,” oh, she was beautiful when she smiled. “An amusing one, though. I certainly shan’t be forgetting you for a few months at least.”
“Oh, a few months?” Callum beamed. “What an impression I must have made.”
“You could say that.” She folded her hands in front of herself - was that a faint blush colouring her cheeks, or was it just the cold weather? - and smiled slightly at him. “I believe you promised me an explanation about your magic cloak?”
“My lady remembers well,” Callum offered her a hand and touched his pouch. “Would you care to discuss it over breakfast?”
She hooked her arm into his and bumped into his side. “I suppose I could find the time.”
