Owen’s TVI (teacher of the visually impaired) Ms. Lori was picked in a "lottery" this past summer to use a newly developed Braille teaching device called a Taptilo. The Taptilo became available just this past July and Owen is one of the only preschool aged kids who gets to test it and provide feedback. It is specially designed for preschool aged visually impaired children. We will have to take videos of Owen using it, as well as us learning to use it and provide information to Ms. Lori and the company who created it. I really could not believe how much Owen has learned on it so far since he has only used it twice with Ms. Lori since beginning preschool. The Taptilo is a wireless device that syncs with your smartphone and uses an app to teach and learn Braille reading and writing. There are two modes; teaching and self-study mode. The preschooler can learn the alphabet, numbers, and 850 basic words! It provides verbal cues and direction. Owen is a great candidate for this device. Ms. Lori has reiterated many times that with Owen's enjoyment for learning and his ability to quickly learn, that he will be reading and writing at the same level if not above other children his age.
