.. When this isn’t even the half of it… I have been working like 12 hour days the last two weeks and I am literally exhausted but I am happy! Also, learning about and beginning to treat my ADHD has helped a lot with my recovery. I also don’t drink anymore and this is the best decision I could have made. Also went off my birth control because fuck that it was NOT helping anything

Public Service Announcment I wrote for the confused peeps in my Caleb Bi/Pan youtube comments because i guess i cant help but be a teacher: Just a little extra info.  "...there is no heterosexual explanation." is a queer phrase and way we talk to each other. It is not literal. It is a turn of phrase. Obviously there is a possible explanation but the phrase is not used the way you are taking it. It is fun for us to see relationships in characters that represent us. If you don't thats fine. Im glad you have good close friends who pump you up that honestly is really nice of you. But I can promise you this commenter was not looking to actually be given a hetrosexual explanation for this interaction. They were just vibing. When I make A comment I always think if my comment is friendly and needed? Will it add to the fun? I try and work out why I am commenting. Often I write a whole thing and delete it because it is not needed. Also just so you know this convo is not being deleted because it is not a toxic one you are all disagreeing but in a nice way. This video had had all manner of slurs and crap posted under it. Just decide what vibe you want to be adding to the space. Don't forget to love each other.

I was told something yesterday at a PLC Meeting ( in teaching, this is like a department meeting , called professional learning community, and it's usually where you get new information, like they are changing the curriculum again or you have to pull up and review data).

I tried to make a voice clip about this. It took a bit to explain. The app I downloaded was just too hard to figure out for sharing, so I'm going to attempt to put it in here and I am sorry if this is long, but I am so pissed off.

If you are a teacher, you are well aware of the word RIGOR.

It means you have to continue to challenge your kids. For the longest time, almost everything has been judged by how much rigor it had. Can't make learning easy, you have to keep trying to get them to think critically.

They changed our curriculum on the fly and gave us one day to figure it out and implement it.

We went from a process of the kids taking notes everyday ----and by notes I mean filling in one word per sentence per paragraph and then gluing what they wrote into their composition books and referring back to them for the test.

Even though the answer to the questions were in their notes word or word exactly as they appeared on the test, the kids this year could not be bothered to look up the answers. Almost every single class chose to not take advantage of the fact that every test was open book. We could not even get them to open the books. They were so lazy the book stayed right in front of them without them opening it up and they preferred to just guess and it end up failing.

So we gave up notes and now we are teaching from a little newspaper called Studies Weekly. It's in a newspaper format but it's basically just front and back of a newspaper type sheet with stories and biographies having to do with whatever topic we are currently talking about. The newspapers com in big stacks with one paper per week. I had already separated them out so that the last 9 weeks were all together.

These are the instructions I gave the first day.

Take top newspaper off the stack. It has a blue Banner on top. Set it aside, that is the newspaper we are going to use. Write your name on that newspaper.

Set all the other newspapers them aside on your desk. Unfold the blue Banner paper and we are going to read the first article.

When the lesson was over I told them take the big stack of newspapers that you set aside and put them on the bookshelf. Make sure you have your name on the blue newspaper. Put the blue newspaper in the bin that is labeled with the same number as the period we are in

I had already told them at least three other times during the lesson that we didn't have did not have enough of these newspapers to go around and as a matter of fact some people at the end of the day would have to have photocopies of it. I explained that if they lost the newspaper, to face the newspaper, ripped the newspaper, through the newspaper away, or lost the newspaper, they would get two zeros because their two daily grades were now coming from the newspaper work.

In my" highest" class, the one where every child had passed their state exam last year, half of the kids did not follow the instructions, did not put their names on them, and either put them in the wrong period or put the newspapers we were working on in the same stack as the other 8 weeks of newspapers.

The ones that did comply wrote their names in either a yellow or a green highlighter on the blue background of the top of the newspaper and it did not show up.

When I vent my frustration at this I was told it was my fault because the instructions I gave were too hard for the fourth graders to understand. Go back and look at the green text again. I was told to dumb that down.

I was told that this discriminates against the kids who have an accommodation in their IEP that says they need simple one step instructions.

I was absolutely dumb struck because I have no idea how I can make that be more simple. For a 10-year-old. 10 year olds should be able to do those instructions. Finally I went to the special ed teacher and ask her specifically what I needed to do. The way she explained it to me was to treat each kid like they were in preschool. And to go so slow we would not make any Headway in class.

It would be having them hold up the newspaper, then having them point to the blue area to show that they had the right one,

going around the class to make sure everyone had the right one,

then showing them exactly where and how to put their name on it,

and then going around to make sure every single person had their name on it,

then calling them out one by one to put the stack of upcoming newspapers on the bookshelf,

and then, at the end of the period taking an extra 5 minutes to call each and every person to put up their newspaper individually

while checking each one of them as they did.

WTF?

If I wanted to teach like this, and I felt like I was equipped to teach like this, I would have become a special ed teacher and not someone who is qualified to teach from 4th grade up until High School.
