Happy Sunday! I’ve spent the weekend indulging in one of the ultimate luxuries- being lazy. It was a very busy week at work, with a holiday, a power outage, meetings, and ever increasing sales. I turned 33 on Sunday. I took a long weekend, only did exactly what I wanted to do and nothing I didn’t, and made this truly ridiculous Mississippi Mud Pie to celebrate. It’s delicious, but also SO extra that I can’t even finish a single piece. Not even with an incredibly strong cup of coffee on the side. I have visions of future-me possibly reworking the recipe into something a little more balanced, but for now I’m going to focus on present me. Royal Doulton Persian - a wild and busy pattern that makes me feel like I’m right there in the forest with the birds. These date from the 1920s, and while the cup and saucer are showing age via crazing, the plate is in wonderful condition. Last week was Afternoon Tea Week in the U.K., and I got to end my own week with a birthday tea for a friend. Unbeknownst to me, it was her first tea party ever!! So glad I could make it a special experience. We had blueberry scones, pimento cheese toasts, cucumber sandwiches, caprese skewers, and deviled eggs. There was fresh fruit with whipped cream, chocolate chip cookies, and shortbread. We drank earl grey tea despite the heat, and topped it off with glasses of bubbly.
