Brother Bear The Series And The Story Of Disney TVA’s Axed Disney’s Heritage Program At Disney TVA.

It was the year 2003 and Disney TVA was moved from the feature animation division aka Walt Disney Studios to Disney Channels Worldwide department mostly know currently know as Disney Branded Television

Disney Channel Worldwide sought to develop series based on what were known internationally as Disney Heritage properties, such as Walt Disney Animation Studios films from old to the most new at the time with a program at Disney TVA called Disney Herintage.

 The program featured the following projects: The Emperor's New School based on  The Emperor's New Groove, Team Atlantis a sequel series to Atlantis developed by Tad Stones, The Treasure Planet The Series,The Aristocats The Series and pictured Brother Bear The Series.

Brother Bear The Series took place directly after the first movie, which saw the young tribesman Kenai choosing to live his life as a bear and a big brother to the cub Koda and saw Koda enjoying Kenai as his big brother so much that he decided to invite other orphaned animals to join their family. Eventually, the family would have included an overactive husky pup, two owlets, a porcupine, and a strange elephant/platypus hybrid named Doohickey, one of the last of its kind, who had a habit of blithely leading Kenai and Koda into danger

The series was developed by Pete Michels, who had directed episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy also Kurt Dumas (Looney Tunes: Back in Action) joined the series as a storyboard artist, with Jill Daniels (Phineas and Ferb) in charge of the art direction. Matt Barrios (The Proud Family) signed on as editor.

After Disney Channels Worldwide tested the pilot to the target demo and did well with the audiences along with the other projects, The Walt Disney Company was not excited for Disney Herintage program as they felt that ordering numerous series based on classic feature animation titles was counterproductive to its goal for the modern Disney Channel brand at the time which was in the middle of establishing its own brand of tween-centric programming ( The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody, That’s So Raven, High School Musical)

Disney Branded Television execs eventually softened that viewpoint, agreeing to take on at least one of the Disney Heritage series: The Emperor’s New School.... but Team Atlantis,The Aristocats The Series, Treasure Planet The Series and Brother Bear The Series where axed with Team Atlantis only releasing it’s 3 finished episodes as a feature film called : Atlantis The Return Of Milo.
