Finally watched Barbie today! After a month of watching Openheimer lol. Honestly, I liked Barbie better and I would never guessed it!! Laughed at the beginning and cried towards the end. It was beautiful. Everything about it.

The Barbenheimer double feature, as wildly popular as it is, must surely derive attention from Social Identity Theory and the strong desire folks have to categorize and self-identify into distinct social groups.

Team A and Team 1 (never team b or team 2) are social identifiers. It’s easy to like Barbie in contrast with Oppenheimer - alone, neither would garner the same attention or meme presence - and fewer people would care about Oppenheimer without the sheer contrast of Barbie alongside.

The existence of choice allows us to more strongly identify with the available options - with one new movie, or three, we would either care or not. But with two - we must choose a side and defend it at all costs. Us, them, Barbie, Bombs…
