I fell down a reddit rabbit hole again. The OP argues that Patrick’s character derailed the entire show. They couldn’t be more wrong, obviously. It generated a pretty decent character study though and there are a lot of potential headcanons floating around.

Patrick’s grandmother made clothes for him twice a year, every year, since the day he was born. Booties and bonnets. Winter hats and sweaters. All blue. When he got accepted to a college in the city she wanted to make him something different. She designed the shirt after the trends of her youth and the flash of rock and roll. She gifted it to Patrick on the day he left and told him to open it when he was ready for a change up.
