thank you!!!! cause of the team trinity stuff that happened in today's sesh, i'll give you a fact for each of them (even though Stephen is only half my oc djgbjhb and half @triskaidekaphilist's)
1: Lucien has picked more fights than anyone else he knows, and lost most of them. Sometimes, he'll start fights he knows he has no way of winning, just because he feels it'll teach him something. He's not much of a philosopher, because he's a selfish dick and he only cares about his own world, but if he were to ascribe a meaning to it? Because conflict simplifies things. There's no complication there.
If someone's doing something you don't like, you kick the shit out of them and make them stop. If he cared about other people at all, he'd probably take up vigilante justice. Honestly, even as he wants to pay Lena back for punching him in the face, he genuinely adores her. She's probably his favorite person in the world right now, because they are both the sledgehammer solution to a scalpel world.
2: Kaya was fairly sheltered as a child and didn't have many friends, finding her way into the emo, goth and metal kids that hung out together at her high school: all the sad/angry teens wearing primarily black and heavy makeup, sitting at the same table.
Her favorite music has always been country, funny enough, but she still found somewhat of a family among the gothic stylings. Somewhere where her morbid sense of humor, no-nonsense bluntness and cold exterior could be appreciated, and not shunned. Her parents were actually wonderfully supportive, even as they themselves didn't really get it. Honestly, Kaya has probably had the least traumatic past of any Hunters NPC.
3: Stephen doesn't hate Ilse. He's scared of them. Scared of what they represent, scared of the anchor they have to his past, of everyone he's left behind, everything he's left behind.
He doesn't want to be better than Ilse, he just wants Ilse to be worse than him, because it means that he did his best, that he's on pace, that his plan isn't and wasn't wrong. It means that he can be satisfied with who he is and what he's accomplished. That those little baby steps were enough.
But the fact that Ilse has come farther as a student, a Daedalus operative, a person than him in the same amount of time? He and Ilse both came from the same place, the same brand of hell, and they've outpaced him. He looks at them and sees someone so much stronger and smarter and braver than he has ever been, and that fucking terrifies him.
The moment the words "my name is Ilse" left their mouth? That was when he knew. To Stephen, that was when their friendship ended.
