artfight revenge for Flawlessvicto20!
My Final Attack for Art Fight was on @cosmic.starstorm of their character Quinn. I really enjoyed doing Art Fight again this year and hopefully next year I’ll be able to do more attacks / get more defends. #artfight #artfight2021 #artfightfinalattack #teamsteampunk #cat #feline #characterart #illustration #spotillustration #vignette #animal #animalart https://www.instagram.com/p/CSEwuCeLwiO/?utm_medium=tumblr

I finished ArtFight 2021.
I did 31 attacks.
11 of those were in a pack. 6 of those were in another pack.
I am planning on reuploading my attacks oon, but I am honestly tapped out of energy. These last few sprites, I found myself in longer breaks between them and needing a bit of push before getting them.
Me doing sprites was ironic all over. I nitially planned on making all of my attacks pixel art because I wanted to practise, but spriting my Gal Ghoul self was difficult, hence I decided to just do everything in Colors! 3D. However, complications wi that programme (including only being able to expor to .jpg and showing mistakes that were hidden in the app itself) combined with my ease of use with spriting meant hat I was going back to my original plan.
There was also my getting used to ArtFight. I rushed in picking whi characters of mine would get entries. This was actually the firs time some of those got drawn at all, while a few others actually got finalise designs. Even after that, I ended up going too far in bookmarking a lot of characters that I wanted to attack. That is not even counting a few real-life issues.
Despite these difficulties, I am grateful that I did this battle. I got a lot of practise with spriting, honing and experimenting. In fact, making all of my attacks ingle walkabout sprites OHRRPGCE-style (a size of 20*20 with a 16-colour maximum) wi the Famicube palette was the reason why I coul do 31 attacks in the first place. A lot of that experience came fro my normal style being inspired by the Metro UI; working at such a low resolution required simila simplification. I even got a feel at how I could normally do sprites; each sprite took around half an hour to a whole hour total. This timing helped me learn about prioritising: I eventually just reduced myself to attacking members of the opposing team that I actually knew, even i from a distance. I also learned at how capable I am at delivering.
The biggest benefit, though, was that, by the very nature of ArtFight, I was essentially allowed to do fan-art whenever. Everyone there essentially gives you permission to do fan-art, complete with necessary boundaries. I was ecstatic that I could actually do fan-art of @grosskelly ‘s Teef, @everysinglepheel ‘s Islacura, and @alicechrosnyart ‘ Stormy, all characters that I admired since a long time! I even got o give @goatpaste a birthday present! Thankfully, my spriting other’s characters always got positive feedback, too!
One bittersweet idea from ArtFight is the idea that everyone i separated into two teams and is encouraged to attack (that is, do art of the characters from) the other team, even Invoking a (positive) Cycle of Revenge. Attacking members of your own team is allowed, but you get way less points this way. Despite teams being arbitrarily set, easily switchable (up to three times), and ultimately pointless, you can easily get caught up in winning points in support of your team. Ther ends up this temptation to reserve all fan-ar to ArtFight, even waiting until next year in extreme cases. Also, the idea of revenge sets up an expectation that others attack you in response to your attacks, which would make you feel bad if you do not get any. Or again, you would feel pressured in responding any attacks with revenge. Aside from these neglecting how real-life can get in the way, you end up missing the point of ArtFight: exercising both your art skills and your appreciation to your fellow artists.
Despite these shortcomings, the team-and-point system does have some benefits. They encourage you to do a good job, mor elaborate works bringing more points. Attacking members of your own team does grant you points, even if drastically reduced, alleviating the feeling of an artist/design you like not being in the opposi team. They also let you start and stop; they narrow down your choices if you are feeling overwhelmed when taking that fir step (especially wit how ArtFight is a big event) and help you prioritise if you bookmarked too much or the deadline is approaching... something that I already mentioned.
In all, I am impressed by how much art I coul do. I feel rather bad that I could not attack all those whom I wanted, but I am definitely planning on participating next year... with opefully much better sprite art! I might fix some sprites I did in the meantime, but I need mor experience before I can do them justice.
At least I might do custom RPG spel lists and stats with each of these.
