1) when did you last third wheel?
A few weeks ago I went to Denmark to visit my bestie (who’s been studying there for a year) for 3 days. I stayed with her and her bf (they’re sharing a flat atm) so I basically spent 3 days third wheeling :P
2) how do you apologise for when you 100% definitely fuck up (i mean this seriously, what do you do)?
Realistically, I think if you’ve seriously fucked up then SAYING you’re sorry isn’t enough – if you’ve done something really bad then apologising is gonna mean fuck all. Like, really. Nobody’s gonna give a shit how sorry you are. The important thing is to show that you understand that you’ve fucked up and then do whatever you can to fix things and try your hardest to make sure you don’t fuck whatever it is up again in the future.
3) if you’re in ~fandom~, which fandom would you disassociate yourself with?
I don’t really know if I’m in fandom tbh. I mean, I’m a fan of a ton of things and I guess fandom stuff is mostly what I post and reblog on here… but fandom can be a bit intimidating and scary sometimes, particularly SuperWhoLock (and I love all three of those shows), because there are ALWAYS some really shitty people who get super possessive because they feel like it’s THEIR show or whatever and that can get nasty… so I try not to delve toooo deep into fandom really.
4) if you play games, a game you’re in the middle of and may never finish. if you don’t, a book or tv show?
As much as in some ways I’d like to be, I’m not really much of a gamer. But I’m in the middle of Of Mice and Men (by John Steinbeck) atm and even though it’s really short I just…. Ugh.
5) which sale do you spend the most money in?
BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS
6) would you travel across the world to study something you love?
A few years ago (like before I went to uni) I would have been terrified to go by myself to study in another country but the thought of it doesn’t seem so scary anymore. So yeah, maybe! As long as I knew a bit of the language first though… Like, it would be wonderful to go to Greece or Italy to study Classics (which is what I’ve just graduated in)!
7) how do you record memories? do you have a journal, a pinboard with photos/etc (i have a pinboard with concert tickets) or something else?
I keep everything. Concert tickets, cinema tickets, train tickets, boarding passes. I keep them all in this box – a memory box, you could say. I also take quite a lot of photos and I’ve recently started using Instagram pretty regularly – it’s nice, it’s like a record of some of my favourite moments, moments that felt important enough for me to capture on camera.
8) those of you who do foreigh languages: do you prefer to focus on semantics of the language when translating or get the vague meaning of the text?
I’m always been kind of a perfectionist about languages, always wanting to get it RIGHT. But sometimes there just isn’t a “right” way of translating, sometimes you can’t translate things perfectly because the language you’re translating into doesn’t have an exact equivalent. So sometimes it’s better to try and find the FEELING of a word/phrase and translate it that way. I guess it’s really the sense of the word/phrase that’s important, right?
9) ” : do you prefer studying language and grammar, or practising reading texts?
Learning grammar can suck. Like, really REALLY suck. I hate grammar. But it can also be really satisfying when you get it right. Reading texts is a challenge but it can be WAY MORE FUN to put your grammar knowledge to the test in a more natural and interesting way than just memorising grammar tables – it can be tough but it’s really rewarding when you can successfully translate something new!
10) one subject you feel really qualified to talk about?
I feel like I should say Classics because I’ve just graduated with a degree in it…! But there will always be so much more to learn about it… So I’m gonna go with Harry Potter. Or Jane Austen’s novels.
