Stick figures make great diagrams

Thought I'd share my simple way of deciphering "tech diagrams." - using stick figures. So here is the back story, I was with one of our technical marketing guys and he was sharing with me a complex work-flow process. The power point slide had lines, dots, arrows, diamonds, and boxes all swirled together. Clearly too much information for me to put together.

As I often do, I found myself walking up to the white board (one of the best inventions ever) re-creating what I understood to be his process. The difference is I mapped it using stick figures - my models for the people who are actually doing the work. As we "stick figured" the process together. It opened us up to the simplicity of what we were trying to explain. It helped us quickly map together what were the key takeaways we needed to share for a slide deck or web page vs the complex diagram that would be saved for a white paper. It's good to know that my kindergarten artwork still comes in useful.
