hi fskdkdkf idk if you’re the person to ask but! recently i’ve been getting a lot of errors with my game .. i use the “forge official 1.12.2” modpack on technic with BOP and Familiar Fauna. recently my game has been crashing for seemingly no reason or it will get a GL error about not having any memory... have you dealt with this issue before? could it be an issue with my computer itself? ^^; thank you if you answer, sorry if i didn’t explain well
I will try my best to help you. 😅
1.) Before anything, always make sure Java is up to date and matching versions with your PC (64-bit or 32-bit). Also make sure you aren’t running any processes in the background that can slow your computer. Go on task manager and end tasks that you feel are unnecessary before playing.
2.) So the memory error most likely means that Minecraft is using a lot more RAM than what your PC can keep up with. It happens more on integrated (built-in) graphics cards. More mods = more RAM needed. Find out how much RAM you have.
Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System. You will see “Installed Memory (RAM).” How many GB is it??? I have 16GB. If it’s small like 4GB or less, you will have a hard time running mods. Please remember this number.
Again I have 16GB RAM total, but I only use 3GB to run the game with mods, and it runs generally well. What is this number for you? If you have a 32-Bit computer, skip to Step 4.
From what I understand right now, 3GB is enough to run your mods. 2GB isn’t enough. If you have over 5GB RAM total, you can easily click that tab to 3GB. If you have 4 or less GB RAM total, this may be difficult to impossible. Consider you need 1-2GB set aside to run basic needs for your computer, you have to determine the amount of RAM you can/ are able to use. For me it is hard to explain but I’ll try my best.
For example:
If you have 4GB of RAM total. Subtract 1 or 2GB for basic computer functionality. That means you are only able to use 2-3 GB of RAM for Minecraft. Does that make sense? This also means that if you have like... 3.5 GB of RAM total, you most likely cannot use mods. You don’t have enough RAM to process all of that.
If you are in that situation, where you have less than 4MB total, what you could do is lower all of your graphics in-game as much as possible, and lower your render distance. This can decrease the amount of RAM needed. This is the next best option when you have little RAM. But I recommend having a computer with at least 6GB of RAM if you want to play modded Minecraft smoothly.
4.) Gonna be honest here. If you are running a 32-bit computer, it may not be possible to play modded. 32-Bit Java and TechnicLauncher launches the game with a maximum limit of 1MB of RAM. You need to use at least 3GB of RAM to run modded Minecraft, which is on 64-Bit computers :( However, you could check BOP and Familiar Fauna to see if there is 32-bit friendly versions. I have no idea on how to help you from here, because I don’t know how to work with 32-bit. Best of luck if this is your case.
5.) Something you can also try out, set priority of javaw.exe on your Task Manager to high. This means that your computer will prioritize running Minecraft over everything else. Keep in mind, it may not fix anything, and I believe it is temporary, meaning you have to keep doing it every time you load up Minecraft.
Run the game, stay on the menu, go to Details on Task Manager, and there will be two javaw.exe. The one with more Memory being used is the right one. Right click on that one and go to “Set Priority > High.”
Send me an ask if you have more questions. I may not be able to answer it, but I could try. TBH it would be good if I knew how much RAM you have, I think RAM allocation is the issue here, if I am correct.
This is a long post, so prepare for it! What I’m about to suggest is *my* way of how I run Minecraft, which may not be the way you want it to be which is totally fine. This is how I solved these issues above, from personal experience. Also this is for Java edition, version 1.12.2, it’s the only version I know how to solve these issues.
I have had countless issues with running Forge and Optifine together, I tried to drag Optifine into the Mod folder many many times and nothing. ever. worked. It was so easy for other people and I couldn’t understand what I did wrong (I even tried running versions that went hand in hand with each other), so I tried a different route.
You can use TechnicLauncher, which is a program that launches Minecraft with a modpack you can choose from, that automatically installs for you, instead of you doing it manually. Although the game itself is the same, TechnicLauncher will have it’s own folders for Minecraft. You have to type in your MC user and password in order to launch it with TechnicLauncher. Some people may feel a bit cautious about that, but TechnicLauncher is safe and easy to use as long as you get it from the OFFICIAL WEBSITE. I haven’t had any issues with TechnicLauncher personally.
My modpack I use on TechnicLauncher is Forge 1.12.2 Official, which actually has Optifine with it (thankfully). So first install Techniclauncher, sign in as if you were signing into your Minecraft account. When installed and running, Go to the tab that says “MODPACKS”
search up Forge 1.12.2 Official, and install it! The install button will be on your lower right.
after installing it, your screen should look like this.
in there, there should be a mods folder. If not, just make a folder and call it “mods.” Same with shaders folder, just make one called “shaderpacks” if not there. And add the mods and shaders you want in the folders accordingly! I’ve gotten all of my mods from curseforge.com.
As far as Mizuno’s 16 Craft, that’s just a texture pack, so just drag that into the resource pack folder. If there isn’t one, make one called “resourcepacks”
What’s in my “mods” folder currently:
-BetterFps 1.4.8
-Biomes O Plenty 1.12.2
-Dynamic Trees 1.12.2
-Familiar Fauna 1.12.2
-Ferdinand’s Flowers Mod 1.12.2
-Mo’Creature’s Mod 1.12.2
-OptiFine_1.12.2_HD_U_E3 (installed with modpack already)
What’s in my “shaderpacks” folder currently:
-SEUS v.110 (my go-to shader pack) Here just add any shader you want.
When you want to launch the game, just press Play on the bottom right corner on TechnicLauncher with Forge 1.12.2 Official highlighted to your left, and you should be good. Forge will start to load up the game, the mods, and Optifine. Before playing, make sure to click the button that says “Mods” on the menu and make sure all of the mods are enabled. You can enable shaders by going to
options>video settings>shaders...
and clicking the shader you installed listed there. The shaders should be enabled when you load up the world.
So there you have it. This is how I created and customized my modpack, using TechnicLauncher. This is also the reason why I am able to run Optifine and Forge at the same time. If you don’t like to use this method I understand, but to me this is the most preferable. All of those GIFs , videos and screenshots you see on my blog are all from Minecraft on TechnicLauncher! I do play Minecraft with the ordinary launcher too, specifically to play the current version, but I only use Optifine with it. If you have any questions about this let me know, I’d be glad to help.
