On the one hand, I absolutely love these smaller game drops that Mojang is doing with Minecraft. I think it solves a lot of issues people had with the way Minecraft updated. Before they would have these massive once (maybe twice) a year updates. As a result a lot of smaller niche features or bugs would get ignored or overlooked because fixing them didn’t fit the theme of the update.
With these smaller updates that drop 3-4 times a year, they can work on updating smaller less intense gameplay features and fix longstanding bugs and issues. I mean, thanks to these smaller updates we now have better crafting recipes for loadstones, saddles, and nametags!
But on the other hand, as a result of these constant updates it has severely handicapped the modding community. Every update already required rewriting a lot of script to make mods and shaders and add-on features compatible, now that’s happening multiple times a year! It’s exhausting…
When there were just one or two BIG updates a year, the game would remain in a little stationary bubble until the next BIG update. This gave mods and updates time to work out their own kinks and bugs and we had more time to play around in our worlds and get used to the big changes.
But now it’s being updated every few months. There hasn’t been a full release for Optifine for almost a YEAR now because by the time they update the code to work on the latest drop, another drop is already on its way out. I don’t really get to play around in my worlds anymore because new features keep unlocking and to try them out I need to start a new world (or venture out WAY beyond my home base to start a new one and leave the old one behind).
I dunno. I guess there are pros and cons to both sides. If you’re big into mods then I can see how this release structure might piss you off. But if you’re a more casual player like me, you probably enjoy the steady stream of new content.
What are all your thoughts?
Minecraft: Sunsetting Roam
I FUCKING HATE OPTIFINE. IT MODIFIES GAME LOGIC, HAS STOLEN FEATURES FROM MCPATCHER, AND EVERY TIME I MAKE A MODPACK I USE SODIUM/EMBEDIUM + IRIS/OCULUS BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING HATE OPTIFINE.
This feels a bit... familiar, doesn't it, Stanley?

Hopefully he won't mind being subjected to an open world game- although he doesn't exactly have a choice.

Minecraft shaders are divinely sent
After about six hours of increasingly wrath inducing errors and crashes while fucking aruond with forge and optifine I finally got the damn things to work! Huzzah! And by God it was.. kinda worth it! Very enjoyable fucking around and tinkering with the settings and honestly the 'insanity' one was geniuely scary at points. Such as in a cave and with strange music in the background and the ambient noises was just... creepy. It was fell giving me unease and the unbound one was just making the game look... GOOD! Like I love minecraft but the game just looks shite. Some screenies because I was awestruck when playing it with shaders for the first time and took.. afew.
Fuck man I love this game
