I was thinking of having an OC who comes from a family dedicated to art and music. I was wondering what kind of techniques they could use that are based around art and music?
Around art? Sai’s a good example.
Around music? Tayuya’s a good example.
But you probably came for more than that, so I’ll throw some ideas out.
Firstly though, let me caution you. Weaponizing art and music may sound like an original idea with lots of potential — and that’s true — but they’re kind of the go-to thing for originality, y’know? And they are intangible things, so making techniques for them has the pitfall of making it deviate too much from Naruto.
So. Art first — I assume you mean visual arts. Sai’s techniques are the simplest way one can use art. The drawings come to life, because they are imbued with chakra. Given that, you should think more on the different aspects of the art process — the paper, the paint, the brushes, and technique and control and focus required on the artist. Furthermore, the techniques don’t have to be fast and furious real-time-combat oriented.
It’s more likely for an artist — who plans and drafts and sketches — to be a strategist. To lay traps, to place seals, to weave life-like genjutsus, then to be like a martial artist and meet the enemy head on. Art is mysterious, right, art is subjective, go in that direction.
Or, you can weaponize the processes of art-making: maybe these clan members have special paint and uses their paintings to poison; maybe these clan members have special paper of some kind; maybe these clan members can throw a brush with the deadliness of a kunai when pressed into a corner.
If a clan values art, it’s also likely that they will think it above weaponizing, that it’s sacred and valuable and thus reject turning their artistic skills to violence. —not really what you asked us, but the idea came to me.
As for music, it’s a lot more interesting, but also less versatile. in a straightforward manner, music is sound, and music can be used to entice — two aspects that have already been covered by Otogakure and Tayuya.
So, I suggest you look outside the sound and to the instruments. Weaponized strings? Bursts of sound to stun? But I can’t really help you here, I’m drawing a blank too.
Creating genjutsus and remote puppetry does sound like the only ideas so far, so I suggest you look at different instruments, because their uses can give you inspiration — look at the traditional Japanese instruments first!
Good luck~
