i'm kind of really very upset about cirinn's comic right now, because i read an article about maleficent and--i know i already voiced some concerns about it, but--it's like exactly what i was going for. i guess they didn't take it as far as i was intending to, but... i don't know, i've been working on this since that fucking random contest blew up in my face, and it's really important to me at this point.

it's like... she loses her wings, right? they get cut off. that's been the story since day one. and it's the catalyst for everything. it's not her motivator--there's nothing to work towards. she's not out for revenge. she just wants to stop this. she wants to get away. and not having her wings makes it so much harder, which is exactly what they were trying to do when they destroyed them.

and even after she busts out, she's sort of haunted by the ghost of her wings. she can't forget what it felt like to fly and be free, and even though she's free now she knows it's not the same. she lost a part of herself forever. they sort of--she feels like her wings represented her autonomy, and over the course of the story she finds all these other refugees and almost all of them have been injured, and she sets up this Yurble with a cybernetic eye and thinks, "hey, maybe I can do something after all." so she starts going around patching people up, until she talks to this Zafara (tentatively named Orion) who's only got one arm.

and he's fucking pissed, dude. he's like, "you're not doing this for the right reasons. you think we're broken and we need to be fixed and it's not fucking cool, i'm a real person and i don't need you telling me this shit"

and she kind of thinks on her motivations and she builds herself a pair of wings. which is where the title comes in--techtrix. Feathers of steel and gears. she's making her own autonomy. her automatonomy, if you will. hehehe. sorry

anyway yeah i dunno. i haven't seen maleficent yet but it just feels... weird. to be... doing this now. i wasn't even gonna start it yet but my damn tablet's broken and it's the only comic i don't need the computer for since it's pen and ink... blurr. i don't know what to do. i feel gross.

i haven't seen maleficent yet but i'm a little nervous to because cirinn's comic has a lot of stuff about not having wings anymore and i just saw a gifset that's basically like maleficent had wings and now they're gone but like. i need my heavy-handed metaphors. don't you dare take this away from me maleficent. i'll fight you.
