HerbertWest's Semi-Final 1 Opinions

Because I have a Lot of Thoughts on the matter and I'm going to share them whether anyone wants to hear them or not. In running order:

1. Lithuania - My #2 favorites! I missed them live because I was driving home from a doctor's appointment but I watched the replay later. They're so much fun!! Thrilled they qualified.

2. Slovenia - Easily the worst. Boring. Bleh. Easy NQ.

3. Russia - this was surprisingly fun. I loved the icon-style imagery they used, and the dress was great. I was surprisingly moved by the wall of people singing the song that they used later on. Very pleased they qualified, but that's also no surprise to anyone who knows me.

4. Sweden - Better than I thought it would be, but also I don't care about this one. Fine with it qualifying though, it wasn't bad, just not my style.

5. Australia - Definitely hurt by not being in person, but also, what were they thinking? "Time to take off our clothes" or something like that, just what? Deserves the NQ status.

6. North Macedonia - I ended up loving this song and performance! It was so emotional, the effects were super pretty, I LOVED the disco ball shirt, and the artist seemed so earnest (and has great singing skills!) I know it was never destined for the Grand Final based on the pre-show ratings, but I would gladly have traded Israel or Belgium for it.

7. Ireland - I like this song in concept, but it wasn't executed super well. Also I was really distracted by the artist being barefoot for some reason like ??? Fine with it NQ, though I get why people are unhappy about that.

8. Cyprus - Fun! My #3 favorite. I did get bored in the middle of the performance, but I don't know what that was about. I still like it a lot. Needed some shampoo ads in there though lol.

9. Norway - This song has grown on me a lot, and by that I mean 'I love ridiculous over-the-top things.'

10. Croatia - This was fun, well choreographed, and should have qualified in the place of Israel or Belgium. I'm really quite surprised it didn't.

11. Belgium - Super catchy, but not actually good, especially lyrically. Liked it more than Israel, but I would have been completely fine if it was replaced by Croatia. Admittedly it has been stuck in my head all evening.

12. Israel - The high note at the end, while extremely impressive, also really hurts my ears. This should have been a NQ. Not interesting. (Also, Israel participating just doesn't sit right right now)

13. Romania - That one backup dancer was DEFINITELY a vampire. Singer couldn't quite pull this one off, so it's a pity it was a NQ but I definitely see why it didn't make it.

14. Azerbaijan - Pretty cool, not really my thing, no issues with it qualifying though. Odd subject matter, as Mata Hari was a German spy.

15. Ukraine - UKRAINE!!!! YESS!!! MY FAVORITES! I'M SO GLAD THEY QUALIFIED THEY WERE SO GOOD!!! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!! I couldn't even watch the last country announcement I was so worried, I literally covered my eyes, but I'm so happy they made it!!

16. Malta - Good fun! No issues with it qualifying.

TEDVISION PART 24: Hatari - Hatri∂ Mun Sigra (Iceland 2019)

This is #2 of my Top 5!

THESE GUYS...I don’t even know what to say. They’re just so provocative, know what they want to accomplish, and look good in that gear. 

I love that these guys actually made it into Eurovision, and the anecdote is that they entered as a joke lol

Also this is more similar to the stuff I normally listen to than most other Eurovision.

They also play this in the goth club a lot, so points for that.
