Most embarrassing medical problem of the year?

I've had a cockatoo for 18 years; almost half her life.

When a cockatoo is happy and looking for friendship and scratches and attention they often click their beak and make soft clicking and clucking noises, even while the scratches are being distributed.

When a cockatoo is particularly content, they will grind their beak. Their beaks grow through their life and don't often require maintenance with a good diet and environmental, such as things to chew on and calcium perches and treats.

I've been grinding my teeth to show her I'm also content with her company. For 18 years. Almost every day, multiple times a day, for 18 years.

I've worn the enamel off at least one tooth down to the pulp and only found out because of a particularly sharp Dorito.

"Do you grind your teeth?" the dentist says, and I can only nod, for while it is only part of the truth, it is the truth indeed.

In exactly one week, I will get my first price estimate for one prosthodontist’s opinion on total mouth repair I need, and I keep thinking I’m not nervous about this except I also keep thinking about how the back of the envelope estimate was $35,000-$45,000 and I just start laughing in a manner one might describe as hysterical
