Kira Imai at Tekko 2019: “Celebrating Fashion Every Day as a Birthday” (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) 

Q: Is there someone that you work with that you admire the most? A: Angelic Pretty’s Maki. When we collaborate, I would create the print pattern and surface design, and Maki would create the form and fit of the dress. I can totally trust Maki’s design.

Q: Has Angelic Pretty given you any constraints and limitations on your print designs? A: Aside from avoiding overlapping designs with the ones to be sold at the same time, I have been given a lot of freedom in my art. I have been working with the people at Angelic Pretty nearly for 20 years, so I have a trusting relationship with this team.

Q: What music do you listen to when drawing art? A: I listen to music without lyrics to help me concentrate. I do my initial draft drawings with intense concentration. My initial drawings are usually done in the middle of the night with no phone or doorbell interruptions and also a nice cup of caffeinated tea. Once the artwork is transferred to the computer work, then I can listen to any type of music or English dramas (currently “Criminal Minds”) to help me learn English.

Made an entire monster prom set. Each took a lot of work (despite their size and simplicity). I will have them for sale at Tekkoshocon artist alley in Pittsburgh :)
