Santa Age 2017
Participated in @santa-age‘s Secret Santa exchange. This is for @absolute-lavellan-trash, a little something of her girl Telanadas Lavellan and Cullen at Satinalia. I hope you like it :)
Telanadas Lavellan couldn’t wait for Satinalia to be over.
Last year’s Satinalia had been a relatively low key affair: a tree, a feast, and some gifts shared amongst her close friends in the Inquisition. This year, however, was the first Satinalia after the defeat of Corypheus. Josephine had taken an interest in celebrating Satinalia with a zeal that surprised everyone and decided to hold a Grand Feast that would make Empress Celene jealous.
At first it was exciting — the steady stream of deliveries, workers, and guests had added a levity to Skyhold. She was ecstatic to see so much greenery indoors — evergreens adorned with veilfire candles, great garlands of branches with ribbons and bells along the walls, so many bright red flowers in every corner of the castle.
But the closer it got to the holiday the more stressed Josephine, and thus the servants, had become. For the past several days Telanadas couldn’t walk through the Great Hall to her private chambers without being asked if she was sure these banners were the right shade of green or if they should change the menu because of Lord so-and-so’s blah, blah blah…
Because of this, Telanadas had been avoiding the Great Hall all day by staying inside her chambers. Normally she would never hide from an unpleasant situation, but Josephine during the holidays was far more terrifying than Corypheus. She didn’t think anyone would blame her this time.
The smell of sugar and ginger spice wafted through her open windows. Her mouth began to water, wondering what sort of sweets the cooks were making. She sighed and ran her fingers through the long part her hair.
Inquisitor Telanadas sat cross legged on her bed and stared at the obscene amount of boxes surrounding her desk. Every box was beautifully wrapped in expensive paper and delicate bows of more patterns and textures than she had ever seen. The amount of boxes made her queasy — not because she feared their contents, but because she knew Josephine would force her to write thank you notes for every single one.
Thanks a lot Josephine, Telanadas thought to herself, annoyed. You’ve even managed to take some of the fun out of presents.
Her reverie was interrupted by a knock on the door. She called for them to enter and she was greeted by the sight of a servant carrying another present. This box was large and wrapped in simple red paper, a sprig of mistletoe tied under a neat white bow.
The servant girl’s face was almost unreadable, but Telanadas could see a glimmer of mirth in her eye. “Commander Cullen asked if you could open the present and make your way to the gardens.” The servant placed the box on the her bed said gave her a warm smile before she swiftly exited the room.
Telanadas’ heart began to race. She took a deep breath and tore into the package with ferocity that surprised her. When she opened the box, a puzzled expression crossed her face. A familiar burgundy cloak stared back at her from inside the box, and she gently pet the fur pauldrons.
It was the Commander’s cloak. Normally she would make a game of stealing it from him when he was busy, but she never expected it to be delivered to her. When she picked up the heavy cloak and she noticed a small piece of parchment fall from the folds of the fabric.
My Dear,
Don’t think I haven’t noticed your lack of Satinalia spirit. Consider this a temporary loan for this evening, I expect it back…eventually.

An overwhelming sense of mischief made her green eyes shine as she thought back to the last time she wore her lover’s clothes. Soft fur against softer skin; the rough touch of her lover’s calloused hand against the tenderness between her legs.
Feeling more excited than she had in days, she quickly wrapped the fur around her. She quickly made her way down the stairs, her hesitation at entering the Great Hall all but evaporated and replaced with anticipation at whatever Cullen had planned.

Hugging the cloak close to her body, she finally made it through the hall without being noticed. Two guards stood attention outside the door to the gardens and gave her a nod as she made her way through the door.
The gardens were a stark contrast to the glitter and bustle of the Great Hall. A large evergreen tree was in the center of the gardens. The branches of the tree were adorned with intricately carved wooden ornaments and white candles, light of the veil fire giving the courtyard a serene glow.
She could see Cullen standing stiff, looking skyward and nervously massaging his neck with one hand. She also spotted another wrapped present, much larger than the last, sitting next to the tree. Cullen was wearing simple leather breeches, and a red, thick long sleeved shirt. His face lit up as he saw her approach, tension in his face melting into a genuine smile.
“Maker’s breath, seeing you in that…” A blush began creep across his face.
A wicked smile played across Telanadas’ lips and she let the fur cloak slip down one shoulder. “How did you manage to clear out the gardens? I thought it’d be filled with revelers like the rest of Skyhold.”
Cullen gave a quick cough. “I may not be the Inquisitor, but even being the Commander comes with some perks. For the next hour we have the gardens to ourselves. The soldiers standing guard have been given explicit instructions to not let anyone, including our Ambassador, in.”
He moved toward the large box that sat on the snow covered ground and lifted the lid. He pulled several large, thick furs out of the box and placed them near the the base of the tree.
“Before I met you, I would have been happy to spend Satinalia on guard duty watching others enjoy themselves.” A wistful smile played on his lips; he reached into the box and pulled out a picnic basket. “This was one of my favorite traditions as a child, an afternoon picnic under the Satinalia tree with the ones you love.”
Inherited smile 😌
