The Future of Caraval
In my read-through of ACFTL, I mentioned that I wanted to discuss my predictions for the future of the Caraval series (which I am using to refer to both the Caraval trilogy and OUABH as a whole).
We know that in Spectacular's exclusive ending and a more recent interview and Instagram story from Stephanie Garber that she is writing an EvaJacks novella, likely the spring holiday one alluded to in the Spectacular exclusive ending. It might even be a crossover that brings the two series back together with Scarlett and Tella visiting the Magnificent North.
But I want to go a bit beyond that.
We know as of Finale that it is prophesied that Tella will have a daughter with Legend who will be powerful and Tella must make the choice to sell out her daughter's secrets to the witches she made a bargain with in Finale or perish--both a terrible echo to the choices that Paloma made.
I think that Tella's daughter will be the protagonist of the next trilogy set in the world of Caraval, and it will be a chance to explore the Southern Empire, where both Julian and Dante are said to have come from (along with maybe the Eastern Continent and the yet-unnamed empire to the West).
Furthermore, I think Tella will choose to die for her daughter's safety, in attempt to break the cycle (but still leaving as Paloma did), leaving Dante devastated and perhaps starting up the more sinister version of Caraval, becoming the villain once more (perhaps in a search for immortality again?)
Tella's daughter will have a romance with EvaJacks' son. There's no other way around it. I just know that direction has to be where we're going. I think it would be an amazing way to unite the books and the main pairings. I'm not the only one to predict it--and I think that just shows how likely it is.
But they won't be the only next-generation characters.
My friend and I were discussing this when she had a brilliant idea--we know that Chaos/LaLa and Scarlett/Julian are connected through the masquerade in Legendary. We think that their children will eventually be an endgame pairing in the sequel trilogy.
I think there may even be love square shenanigans between these four couples' children--but these will be the final pairings.
