(Earlier) Letters to the Enchanter
My writing for teloitus about my Inquisitor in Dragon Age Inquisition
„Enchanter, I managed to find my place and assume my role seamlessly. I entered the village in the company of some pilgrims and offered my services to the Inquisition. It was not a challenging task since the organization is very young and is in need of good, hard working people. So far, my position here is secure. The prisoner’s life was in grave danger for days, but his captors were doing their best to keep him alive. When he awoke, the Seeker took him to the Breach and they discovered that the prisoner’s injured hand could seal the Rifts. A very fortunate turn of events for sure, but not nearly enough to solve the problem. I don’t know much about this injury, it is certainly touched by magic, and I suspect that even the leaders of the Inquisition aren’t sure what it is exactly. The injury is now stable, and not threatening the prisoner’s life anymore. The Seeker was convinced that the prisoner is innocent, so they let him go and asked him to stay and help them close the Rifts. He didn’t have much choice in the matter, in situations like this we do what we must to survive. Even if he didn’t want to seal the Rifts – which would be a foolish thing to do – the Inquisition grants him safety from the outside world. As for what I think about him being guilty, I am almost certain that he’s innocent. His behaviour and his actions gave me no reason to think otherwise, but I will not cease to watch him, I will send a report immediately at the first suspicious sign. He is a dalish mage, Samahl from Clan Lavellan. I think he’s at least 25 years old, but can’t be older than 30. He’s a healer and a good one too, according to the apothecary and some of the chantry sisters. He made himself useful as soon as he was able, and started building connections inside the Inquisition right after he woke up. Most people in Haven think that he’s the ’Herald of Andraste’ for some folks claim to have seen the prophet in the Rift where the soldiers had found Lavellan. To people here, he is a new hope sent by the Maker to save us from the demons, but there are always those who will see him as another threat. While small people’s opinions are divided, the ones with power mostly just fear the Inquisition and try to keep it from becoming more powerful. They will be hostile to them, make moves against them or ignore the organization, proclaim that they’re not worthy of the attention and hope for the best. And there will be always those who will strive to be the Inquisition’s best friends and bend the knee as soon as their power increases. As for Lavellan, the Seeker and her people have no choice but to trust him. Lavellan is definitely an asset if he keeps to his new role and works with the Inquisition. He is the key to closing the Rifts and so far we don’t know about any other way to seal them. The Inquisition needs to keep him on their side, alive and well. For the time being he is quite motivated, he’s working hard. I’m not very familiar yet with his way of thinking, but right now it seems to me that as long as he is a willing ’key’ in the Inquisition’s hands, they have a good chance of sorting out this chaos. I am ready for your orders, the General”
„Enchanter, I have arrived at Haven, safe and sound. I had found some refugees on my way here, they took me in and the Inquisition gave us places to sleep. Nothing fancy, but we all have a roof over our heads. They suspect nothing, they treat me like I was one of them and I found work in the tavern the day after our arrival. I am happy to report that the prisoner - a dalish mage by the name of Samahl – is no longer a captive. His hand was injured gravely after the explosion at the Conclave, and after the skilled healers of the Inquisition nursed him back to consciousness, he managed to stabilize the Breach in the sky with this mark on his hand. His mark is stable as well now. He is willing to help the Inquisition and this made the Seeker see that he is not the enemy, but the hope for all of Thedas. There was no doubt that he would join the Inquisition. As soon as he was feeling well enough to walk, he visited almost everyone in Haven. He is a helper. He is curious about everyone, respects every soul, and brings little moments of joy into our dark days. He likes asking questions, but knows people well enough to notice when his questions aren’t welcome, and he adjusts immediately. It is heartwarming to see the way he cares about other people. Needless to say, most people like him very much and enjoy talking to him. He walks around Haven all days long, and he keeps his eyes open. He’s usually working at the apothecary, busying himself healing people and cooking up potions, but if someone needs help with anything, he is always among the first to act. There’s no doubt that this is partly the influence of his dalish background, and it make me wonder if all of the wandering elves are so helpful and caring when they’re not trying to avoid us. It is absolutely certain that he had nothing to do with the catastrophe at the Conclave. He was sent there by his clan’s Keeper – clan Lavellan – to gather information about the peace talks, and I am convinced that he volunteered to be the one to travel across the world. He seems to enjoy every single moment spent here. Some people call him the ’Herald of Andraste’, and he doesn’t like it one bit. He is a humble soul, with no intention of being in the center of attention or in a leading position. People calling him a blessed prophet and a divine savior is way too much responsibility for him and he would never want to be more than just a simple man in other people’s eyes. I’m afraid he has no say in the matter, the news about the Herald of Andraste are spreading like wildfire. To those in Haven, who see him or even talk to him every single day, he’s starting to become more than just a name, and I think some people here already see him like a mortal man and not a divine hero from the legends. But to everyone else outside our walls, he is a notion. He is a ray of hope, a possible threat, an unknown piece on the board. This mark will change who he is forever, and he must learn how to live with it and still not lose sight of what he is. He is a great possibility to try and heal the world. I just hope that the world he’s healing won’t devour him. I await your answer, the Minstrel”
