It had taken him months to recover-- even with the aide of the fairies and their healing magic. Jacques was lucky enough to survive the mortal wound to his chest. If he hadn’t been sent to the hospital by the Enchantress-- well, he would have died. Fortunately the surgeons had taken him into emergency care immediately.
The moment his friends found out-- they rushed to his side. Admittedly, Jacques was surprised at the number of persons who paid him a visit during his recovery. Not just those he’d grown close to since the curse broke, but regular patrons from the tavern as well.
He’d only divulged to a select few where he’d been and what had happened. He also expressed an urgency to return to that world. The land where he’d found his true love.
Adrian’s pained expression haunted him each night, calling to him-- begging for him to return.
It was fortunate he’d befriended those with a knack for magic-- after finally recovering, he packed a large bag with things he’d need for a long stay, well aware he might not be able to return home. Before he departed, he was given a gift. A magic bean, which could bring him back to town if he so chose. He imagined bringing Adrian to this world-- maybe, in time, he would.
Waving good-bye to his companions [and leaving the care of his tavern in the hands of a very capable dwarf] he returned to the land of Villenueve. Landing outside the village as he’d done during his first unintentional arrival. He shifted to his feet, dusting himself off as he adjusted his backpack, making his way into town.
Adrian was the first face he wanted to see-- making a beeline for the man’s house. Hoping against hope he was well-- that he’d be home.
