Hi me again. Whats your opinion on the Mandalorian Excision? How do you think the Jedi felt about it? What do you think Yoda thought about it? Do you think the Republic overreacted? Also what's your opinion on the upcoming High Republic Era content? What do you hope to see from the new books. What do you hope they avoid?
I’m afraid I’m not familiar enough with that part of the old EU to give a satisfactory answer to your first few questions, sorry :(
As for the High Republic/Project Luminous stuff, I’m looking forward to it, though I’m probably not going to be one of those people that gets these the moment they drop (I’ve never been a “midnight showing” kind of person). I’ll wait and see what others are saying about it first, see how promising it looks before checking it out myself.
I hope to see, though, more Jedi culture lore and development. For all that certain sections of fandom claim that Star Wars needs to “get away from Jedi stories”, we’ve really only scratched the surface of such a fascinating and wonderful culture. I’d love to see more insight into their relationship to the Galaxy, and to the arts, and to each other.
I’d also hope to see, though it’s by no means a requirement, an explanation for how the Jedi came to learn of the Rule of Two. Obviously the Jedi can’t directly encounter the Sith, since as of TPM they have every reason to believe the Sith were wiped out 1000 years prior. But encountering some holocrons or writings under circumstances that appear to lead to the conclusion that these “Rule of Two” Sith died out in obscurity a long time before - that could definitely work. After all, the Sith didn’t always strictly follow the Rule of Two themselves, so say a situation had occurred where an Apprentice’s secret apprentice killed both the Apprentice and the Master at once, but made it look like it had been a mutual destruction, that could give the Jedi reason to believe that the Rule of Two had been followed and that it had been the end of the Sith line.
Also Yoda cameos would be great, though not necessarily a focus on him. Though maybe Yoda having a padawan at the time could be a cool thing?
And though I know they said it’s books and comics only...maybe potential for video games down the line? I would love that...
What I don’t want to see...well, any drastic misinterpretations of the Jedi and their culture or the Force. I don’t expect anything to fully conform to my takeaway from the films, since we all get something different out of them, but any harping on attachment as though it “bans love” or similar nonsense that sometimes showed up in the old EU or shows up in fandom is a hard no for me. Anything that tries to frame them as responsible for all the ills of society, or tries to redefine balance/the Force, or otherwise tries to make them out to be some ridiculously dysfunctional, outdated, corrupt institution (or, as @gffa said, used to fuel claims of the prequel-era Jedi being such) - any of the usual Jedi-critical stuff that I strongly feel is inaccurate to the films, I would hope they stay far away from.
I’m hopeful on that point, though, since iirc several of the authors slated for this have written Star Wars stuff before, and afaik they’ve been reasonable when handling the Jedi.
