02/238: Wat Rong Khun, aka the White Temple, was in built in parity with the Black House outside of Chiang Rai. The former is meant to represent heaven and ancension, while the latter denotes the antithesis. Upon my 3rd visit, I'm still awestruck by this truly bizarre creation. While it's stark white appearance is meant to represent purity, I see many more aspects from the book of Revelations in this heavenly representation than I do in it's dark counterpart. The idea that one must travel through hell to ascend is fully portrayed in this palace built atop the outstretched arms of the damned. 1/328: He just wanted to take my #bike for a little spin! Did around 60km today though a mix of dirt, sand, gravel, and finally pavement. The majority of the ride in the heat of the I thought deeply about how much I really wanted a watermelon. Low and behold, not long after this encounter, my desire was satiated. 1/189: Exploring #thailand seems to never get old. Today I spent the day #rockclimbing in Mae Sai, a place I had only been before in passing. I'd visited previously to extend my visa, but today the province has a new feel, a new story, a new identity. Now, Mai Sae holds Wat Tham Pal. 1/130: One of the most fascinating aspects of living in #thailand for myself is the #buddhist faith. I'm not a believer in organized religion, but between where I work and where I live, I am surrounded by it on all fronts. What boggles the mind for me is how pervasive the religion is, yet how far removed one can feel from the actual faith. While I believe that all our spiritual quandries can be answered through #nature, during the weeks I am often resigned to meditating in temples. This has been more of a struggle than expected. Between tourists treating these "sacred" spaces like theme parks or local temples opting to charge foreigners entry fee and lining the temple walls with vendors, finding a sanctuary has been a struggle. This week, though, I stumbled upon Wat Pha Kao, located in the old city of #chiangmai .
