The Winter Ball, Already?!
Vanille glared herself down in the bathroom mirror. Her icy blue and white dress fit so perfectly on her it was almost scary. Guess Namine and I are the same size. Her make-up was done, though her hair was the same as ever - she refused to let anyone touch her pigtails, as they were sort of a trade-mark for her. The light above her caused the sparkles from her dress to reflect all around the room. Gosh, did Vanille look elegant. First she turned right, then left, then all the way around. She fiddled with her hair a bit awkwardly - even her sun-shaped earrings, which she always kept on. Her fingers lingered there for a few moments before she gave up on whatever her intentions were and collapsed with her arms and head on the counter.
"Lightning's probably been waiting for me for the longest time," she grumbled. Everyone else had already gone to the ball - she was the last. It was just the nerves, of course. Never before had she dared going to things like this without Fang. It would seem silly that almost everything she passed by or thought of reminded her of Fang - except that Fang was really the only thing she knew. Growing up with her, living with her - while she had other friends, she very rarely spent time with them without Fang. Vanille sighed. I wish she were here.
"I don't wanna goooooooo..." She said out loud.
She imagined Fang's response. Ahh ahh ahh. The imaginary Fang wagged her finger at the girl. None of that. You're going, and you're gonna have a good time.
"I know, but-"
No 'but's. You'll be fine. Light'll take care of ya.
"I guess so. Okay, I'll go..." Vanille sighed heavily. "You're always right, Fang."
Course I am. Now scurry on over there. Bet she's been waitin' on you for years now.
Vanille straightened up and nodded at her reflection. "Right. Here I go!" With a mighty grin she flung open the bathroom door and raced to Lightning's door, knocking three times for good measure. "Lightning?" She called out. "I - I'm ready now! You there...?"
