super obscure yokai in touhou are so funny. nobody knew what a tenkajin was until zun made it a chupacabra in a tshirt

Actually Chiyari IS Latina objectively her youkai species, the Tenkajin, is a sort of fireball known to suck people's blood from a particular part of Japan. What most people don't know, however, is that in 1978, Colares, Brazil, beings matching this description were spotted many times and attacked people. The military even launched an investigation.

thank you for this tidbit!!! i had no idea the Tenkajin also had ties to Latinoamerica, albeit Portuguese... this makes me want to go down another cryptozoology rabbit hole.

Since I live in the southeastern US, I focused on the chupacabra aspect of her characterization since i'm already familiar with it's folklore :3

Chiyari doesn't seem to use these two portraits during any of her story mode or VS mode dialogues.
