¿Qué carajo es un Teres Torrue?
Okay, I know I give "Querardo" as a name way too much flack because of how little sense it makes in Spanish... But what about fucking Teres Torrue (Or Tolue before the name change)??? What kind of name is that!?
...I'm not sure if that was obvious with earlier posts, but... I'm argentinian. So for the most part, I think I can have a word when it comes to deciphering Teres' name and its meaning. Or at least, get to its closest equivalent on actual spanish (?)
First thing... Teres does not exist here. Oddly enough we DO have a situation similar to Querardo, where a female name is closer to what we are looking for: Teresa (And diminutive Teresita). According to the Buenos Aires national name registry, closest things we have to Tolue's name is Termes, Terrence, and Terris (Never saw a guy with that name before on the first place, no idea where they got that).
When it comes to the surname, however...
As I was first writing this post (and later had to pause its writing), Teres' surname on the wiki was Tolue. And to my surprise, this one seemed to be an actual thing? At least in the website Family Search:
North German: metonymic occupational name for a collector of tolls or customs, from Middle Low German toll ‘toll’.
German (Tölle): see Toelle .
Dutch: variant of Tol , a cognate of 1 above.

However, what interested me is the fact that Tolue seems to have at least prescence on Italy, which is a common descent from many argentinians (including myself). I can get behind the idea of Teres having an italian great-grandpa overall <3
But like I said earlier, this surname would be changed to Torrue, which does sound like a corrupted spanish version of Torre (Tower). Which is... Not bad, mind you, but there's already a Torres in The Empire, so it feels a bit redundant... ._.
I was planning to stop the research here and call it a day, but turns out FamilySearch also had a meaning for Torrue!?
Scottish: habitational name from any of various places in eastern Scotland called Torry or Torrie, for example in Kincardineshire, Fife, and Aberdeenshire, all probably named with Gaelic tòrr ‘conical hill’ + the locative suffix -in.

So, this time around, Teres would have scottish family instead, which is... Interesting. Argentina is known for having an entire Gaelic town on the south and some english people had chosen to move here, but Scotland I feel like its one of the more lesser known british diasphoras on this country. Which is funny, because when you research it further... Here's some random people that *casually* have scottish descent:

...In the end, I see Teres' father being italian by his own dad, and scottish by his mother. I can get behind that. (Also, I'm only going with the paternal side of the family because I have a different idea for Teres's mom!!)
So... What do you think? Do you have a similar view on this? Specially if you talk/know about the spanish language and names. I'd honestly love to discuss about it, because genuinely want to know who in L5 wanted to use TERES of all names 😭
