Collection of my Bug (+Alien) Wrestlers
Chris Weston’s Nemesis the Warlock print for the 2000AD 40th Anniversary Bash. And all I can say is...
BE PURE, BE VIGILANT, BEHHHNNNNGGGHHHHH
There are a few nods to scenes from the ten books of Nemesis The Warlock- to which this acts as a sort of sequel/epilogue (but isn’t included in the Nemesis collections)- but this is my favourite.
The original reference (in Book Nine) to The Shining had Torquemada headbutting through a door, complete with his own equivalent of the “Heeere’s Johnny!” dialogue. Deadlock seems to have decided that a visual homage is sufficient- this has the effect of making it a less explicit reference to the previous book.
As with the other echoes of Nemesis in this story, the lack of emphasis on the homage allows a certain atmosphere to develop, where you can recognise elements of what has come before, but they do not affect the story for anyone unfamiliar with the Nemesis books. At the same time, they subtly continue the themes from there- the echoes of the past mirror the eternal battle of Nemesis and Torquemada, now trapped in ghostly form; the aspects of Purity’s rule that have yet to shake the xenophobic policies of the Grand Inquisitor evoke the moral ambiguity of the Warlock, as well as the inherent problems with authority that both Nemesis and Deadlock serve to highlight.

Nemesis the Warlock!
Nemesis the Warlock in colour..at last!
Having waited years for U.S reprint series Eagle Comics Presents:Nemesis the Warlock to be released in this country, all fans of the alien resistance leader are about to be made very happy-in technicolour! Pat Mills wildly imaginative scripts and Kevin O’Neill’s gloriously bizarre depictions of the worlds of Nemesis, unlike anything you’ve seen in comics before, have been bestsellers in their original black and white for years in the 2000AD shop. Fully coloured by O’Neill for the U.S reprint market in the 1980’s,the originals were released in the standard American comic book format and are becoming increasingly rare. So it is with even greater pleasure to reveal that this new collection, available in two editions-“Deviant” and the exclusive “Termight”(the latter only through the online shop),will be in the much larger U.K size graphic album(hardcover)and feature the equally elusive Nemesis the Warlock:Poster Prog, from the 1990’s.
Nemesis the Warlock Colour Collection will be available to buy from 12 September 2013. So order your copies now you lucky Earthlets! Credo!
