Warning, depressive topics/suicidal ideation
So one of the xenodrugs is the class O. The identity obliteration drug. Wipes a brain clean till the flort knows nothing but happiness.
I albeit haven't read a lot of the setting (mostly due to apathetic lack of motivation to read something i enjoy) but I get the feeling they don't get used because people want characters.
So my brain has started constructing a story idea that would force the Affini in the story to use them.
Floret who thru all the drugged out pleasure and hypnosis forms the logic gate that life needs to have a goal. The point of living is to move forward to new things, to struggle, experience pain, emotions. The full range of the human experience. But with the owner, it's always the same life, a perfect utopia of nothing but happiness. There's not meaning, no point to living left for them. So it does a little self destructive behavior, and the affini finds out and so they play with sado masochism not recognizing it fully. And then the floret tries to go further, hitting an artery with a kitchen knife. And the affini dismisses it as a masochist attempt gone wrong and cares for their beloved floret until they are healed up.
And the floret tries again, and the affini admonishes them and keeps them solidly drugged for a while to keep them from exploring when the affini isn't there. But eventually let's them have some independence again because they just seem so much happier running around.
And again, the floret tries, and the affini is worried, and so tries to embed hypnosis that states that the flort can't masochize themselves alone. But the florts cracked psyche from drug use and mind fucking breaks around that with the logic that it's a self ending attempt, not for pleasure. Death is the next thing in life afterall, there isn't anything left to move forward but death.
And by the fourth time while they recover, barely holding on, needing prosthetics to replace things, the affini finally discusses with a vet, the pet psychology. And the class O starts.
The flort would be happily accepting this, because they know that what they are will cease to exist and that was the goal the whole time.
But entirely sure what would be reasonable for interactions with the affini and their now no longer sentient floret after the class O breaks them down completely, I envision a self dosage of class O as they grieve for the loss of the flort they loved but that doesn't quite seem in character.
