Tesopp and Yasopp are both biological siblings. They grew up in quite a toxic household with both their mother and Father (Usopp and Oceans Grandparents- now deceased.) Their father originated from Rhythm nation, and so ,he was big on music and wanted nothing more than to pass that down onto both his kids. Hours on end Tesopp and Yasopp were forced to practice their skills through singing and learning instruments. And the real goal here was; to get them famous and earn money, that’s all their father cared about. Yasopp showed no improvement so he was subjected to quite a lot of abuse by their father. Failure was not welcomed in his household. Their mother on the other hand, as much as she was there for them emotionally she wasn’t there for them physically as much. Nobody had the willpower to go up against their father. Unlike Yasopp, Tesopp on the other hand did show improvement. She was like a born-singer. But even she was a victim of their father’s abuse. She just put up with it more. Even more so after Yasopp suddenly disappeared when they were teens.
After his disappearance she resented him for leaving her behind. And would continue to feel that way until she met Usopp post-timeskip. Tesopp ended up becoming mainstream only at 17, and of course got rich out of it. She made great music, grew a wonderful community, and made lots of new friends in her prime. Despite all that, her father was still using her. She was like a puppet to him. No freedom was ever truly granted to her. By the time she turned 25, her father signed her off to an arranged marriage with another small wealthy family in order to gain more money. Especially with the new pirate era being born. At 26 she gave birth to Ocean on Rhythm Nation. 2 years later her father passed including her mother 7 months later. Even with him dead, and her career as a singer booming, she still lost her mother, her brother, and her childhood altogether. So raising a child while being busy with her career was a struggle.
To make matters worse Oceans father just had to pass away from an illness himself. That left her to raise Ocean all on her own for the next couple of years. By the time Tesopp was 40 she was already burnt out and decided to retire then and there, even with her music still being popular across the seas. It broke her community’s heart but those who knew her well understood.
2 years after marineford happened, Ocean one day comes back with an entire crew of pirates- most specifically, the strawhat pirates. Claiming that she found out that she had a cousin named Usopp. At first, Tesopp was more than startled and angry, telling them to leave till she met Usopp face to face. She was..devastated to say the least. Her brother had a kid? Well damn. And he left the poor boy when he was born? AND HIS MOTHER DIED??? Learning all that of course fuelled her resentment for Yasopp even more. But Usopp reassured her that Yasopp was still a good person, and he was someone he looked up too. Despite it being messed up hearing Usopp talk so kindly about his father and her own brother, it softened her heart at least.
Tesopp invites the strawhats into her mansion of a house and eventually meets Brook. A walking, talking, and singing, Skeleton. At first it was weird, but eh..after some tea and talking with the boney guy, Tesopp found herself liking Brook. A little too much. Didn’t help that Brook was being the perverted gentleman he is and asking her for her panties. Usopp did not like that. At all. Usopp didn’t like the fact that his own crew members (Brook + Sanji) were trying to hit on his Auntie and Cousin who he just found out existed.
That’s where it ends for now, but I wanna think that the straw-hats help protect rhythm nation from a group of pirates who are just trying to take control of the place.
