     After Kalrien had parked her car and they headed into the mall, she realised that she hadn't      really thought her plan through very well. She had only gone shopping with another person      of the female gender two or three times before, and the anxiety began to set in. She didn't      know what to begin talking about, but she was aware that she'd been quiet for most of the      car ride, and she didn't want to appear even more aloof than usual.

     Kalrien gave a cough that was, if she were being honest, slightly nervous. "Can I admit       something to you? To tell you the truth, sometimes I get tremendously impatient trying to      find a good parking spot, so I'll use a little of the luck in my metalminds to get one right       near the door."

[ MSG: Linden ] -- My apologies if I'm interrupting you at work, but I was wondering if you were free sometime this weekend? There is going to be a gala in a few weeks time, and the Commissioner is going to be there. Needless to say, it's quite an important event, and I've been having some trouble selecting an outfit.

     The puppy was a wriggly little thing, but bigger than he had expected. When he      picked it up from Kal, he was surprised that she was in a good mood, but he      figured out why in a relatively short amount of time. 

                                     He didn't know exactly how his best friend had managed to                                       train a puppy to behave so thoroughly with absolutely no                                      prior experience, but he really shouldn't have been surprised.                                      The little guy sat quietly on Tessa's doorstep, tail wagging and                                      tongue lolling, quivering with energy, but contained himself.                                      All things considered, the puppy was dealing with the situation                                      even better than Basil was.

The door opened.

                                  "Oh, hey, Miss Tessa! I think you lost something."

     Ever punctual, Kalrien showed up at Tessa's door with three minutes      to spare. She had considered whether or not it would be prudent to      arrive a few minutes early, or later considering the other woman's      preoccupation as a mother. She knocked on the door, unable to      explain why she felt so nervous. 

No, that was a lie. It was very easy to explain why she was nervous.

                   One. She had never done anybody else's hair before.                    Two. Neither had she ever had any close female friends                             in the past. Is that what this was? Friendship? Well,                             the verdict for that question was probably going to                             be affected by                  Three. Kalrien was now sleeping with? in a loosely defined                             relationship with? Tessa Linden's ex.

It was all getting a little complicated for Kalrien's liking.
