An old building in a neighborhood facing disinvestment was permitted to use the space to create The Test Site in Rotterdam Central District--an international curator team bringing together architects, planners, businesses, developers, and more on current urban issues. Idea sharing and experiments to revitalize the city take place here, such as this elevated walkway called the Lutchsingel, which connects three neighborhoods of Central Rotterdam, Hofbogen, Pompenburg. Approximately 10% of demolition costs were used to fund a yellow-highlighted public passage and invite and connect people to use the new passage and walkway. Over 17,000 planks were sold for name-engraving to help fund the space. Crowd-funded public space! A garden of herbs and kale sit atop the roof, pollenated by urban bees, and overlooking the landscape of transitioning neighborhoods in Rotterdam.
