Just two Texan kids in their homestate of Texas on hometown dates.
If you’ve noticed that I’ve been a little absent from social media this past week, it’s because Nick Yedinak and I made the conscious decision to hightail it to Texas - to his hometown of Waco and my hometown of Dallas - and, just live in the non-social media moment, soaking up family, friends, margaritas, memories...and, queso.
We arrived on Friday the 13th in Dallas, where I showed Nick the magic of my hometown with mambo taxis at Mi Cocina, breakfast at the Original Pancake House, sunshine-soaked swimming, steak house dinners, and games of Gin Rummy with my mom Clarice McCoy and Ron Alexander.
Then on Sunday, it was off to Waco for 4 nights, where I met Nick’s sweet, sweet family in their buttercup yellow family home pictured here.
We celebrated his mom Ginger’s birthday.
We sipped our morning coffee, side by side, on their front porch swing, listening to Elvis singing “Green, Green Grass of Home.”
We drove by Nick’s old field house where he was co-captain of the foootball team.
We were treated to martinis & scotch by his second family, the Shorts.
We snacked on Sonic cherry limeades & Long John Silver snackpacks.
And, we took a few strolls down Memory Lane to the places that have left imprints on Nick’s heart.
On Thursday, we headed back to Dallas for some more Mi Cocina with my family where Nick’s mom met my mom & big brother.
We then had dinner with Nick’s big brother & his family, which ended with a game of catch in the Mi Comino parking lot.
We surprised my eccentric dad with a visit, who surprised us with a mid-afternoon single malt tasting.
I drove Nick by my favorite Dallas haunts & heavens: the @dallastheatercenter where I spent most of my youth, @jdschippery & @northparkcenter, the best mall in the country.
We then had another evening at @micocinarestaurants with my family and my college bestie, @jennatate27 & her husband, Tom, followed by cocktails & laughter at @neighborhoodservices.
And, the next morning, we hit @lamadeleinecafe before we set off back to L.A., smiling at each other with tears in our eyes that this trip couldn’t have been more golden.✨
