Giving a ride to a complete stranger is TOTALLY OK.
Since I started to attend at Texas State, I have never been to a football game or tailgating. So I took up the opportunity to attend the Tuesday night game with UL Cajuns and the tailgating. Since we were losing pretty badly, my friends and me decided to go home after half time. My friends went toward bobcat village to their car, while I walked very quickly to Strahan catch the night bus for Aquarena and Blanco River. 5…10..15..20..30… minutes past, the bus never comes by. Others who were waiting for bus decided to leave one by one.
While only I ended up standing there like an idiot.. 5 minutes later, a girl coming from the stadium asks if the night bus for the Aquarena and Blanco River route left. I said I was waiting for the bus myself. She thanked and went to sit on the floor. We wait there for another 30 minutes by this time it was past 10 pm and the night was turning chilly. I decided to leave the thought of waiting for the bus and called my brother to pick me up. Luckily he and his friends were almost done shopping at Wal-Mart. I stood there for a few more minutes my thought went back to the girl who was waiting for the bus just like I was. I am type of girl that shy away from talking to strangers unless I am hyperactive due to caffeine or under the influence of alcohol (not drunk). But thoughts of that girl alone in the dark this late and cold just waiting for a bus bothered me. I could not just leave her there and I had all these weird thoughts about killing and missing stuff started popping up (yes, I watch way too much crime shows.. guilty) So I took up the courage and went to her and introduced myself and told her that I was not going to wait for the bus and that my brother was coming to get me. I offered her a ride with us since it was on the way to my apartment. To my surprise she accepted (if it was me I TOTALLY wouldn’t have accepted it even if it was girl..maybe) and told me where she lived. She introduced herself as Mariana.
Mariana: So where are you from?
Me: From? Like city or cultural/country vise?
Me: India. And where are you from?
We went on to talk about how many semester we have been in school and by this time my brother showed up with his friends and we got into the car. I introduced her to my brother and our friends (Jerry and Jijo). On the way to her apartment, I asked her what here major to which she replied ESS (something exercise and sport) and she asked mine. We dropped her at her apartment and said thank yous’ and good nights. A minute later, I realized and thought out aloud that I just did my assignment for improvisation.
Me: Yes, I had to talk to a complete stranger without telling them it is for an assignment
Brother: You didn’t know that person?!? I thought she was your classmate!?
Me: Nope, I just met her while waiting for the bus. I didn’t feel like leaving her alone at the bus stop, so I offered a ride with us.
Jerry: No wonder, I was thinking that you should have known what major she [your friend] was doing already.
Jijo: (laughing aloud) for her [me] everything happens in a big twisted plot.
