PATCHES TUTORIAL!! ᡣ𐭩
last year i started doing my own patches and i thought i could share the process if anyone is interested in making their own :)
1) choose a design, print it out and tape over the paper (i usually do two layers of tape)
2) cut out the design (be careful when cutting circles!! you have to keep the middle connected to the rest of the paper!)
3) take a piece of fabric or a shirt and tape the stencil on so that it won't move
4) take some fabric paint and dab it on with a sponge
5) take off the stencil (and if you have circles in your design, paint the bits that weren't coloured)
6) wait for it to dry and follow the fabric paint instructions (usually you have to iron it to set the paint) anddd that's it!! i usually sew it on a shirt but you can do whatever you want :)
p.s.: band logos and simple designs are a good place to start cause they're easier but! if you're confident you can do more complicated designs like this
Long time no uni posting!
I’ve been working with our new digital textile printer and it feels insane to see my designs printed on fabric 🤯 Like, that is actually something that could become a product???? Wiiiiiild…
Jamdani (Bengali: জামদানি), also known as Dhakai named after the city of Dhaka, is a fine muslin textile developed in Narayanganj in Bangladesh. Jamdani is a woven with thread in cotton, using a supplementary weft technique of weaving, where the artistic motifs are produced by a non-structural weft, in addition to the standard weft that holds the warp threads together. The standard weft creates a fine, sheer fabric while the supplementary weft with thicker threads adds the intricate patterns to it. Each supplementary weft motif is added separately by hand by interlacing the weft threads into the warp with fine bamboo sticks using individual spools of thread. The result is a complex mix of different patterns that appear to float on a shimmering surface. The pattern is not sketched or outlined on the fabric, but is drawn on a graph paper and placed underneath the warp. Jamdani is a fine muslin cloth on which decorative motifs are woven on the loom, typically in grey and white. Often a mixture of cotton and gold thread is used.

Look at this test piece!! I got high hopes for this but if you know my luck something will surely go wrong lol
Anyway! I just gotta wait 1-2 weeks then its time to throw it in the washer! Some of the color will be lost but its a question of how much... and if it then holds up for multiple washes!
