Ice Cream Sunday
A little thing I wrote for @the-hunter-of-teufort based on a piece done by them here. It’s just a WIP, and by far not my best work, but here is a preview! Story includes the 10th class OCs, The Hacker from me, The Hunter from @the-hunter-of-teufort, and The Driver from @tf2humbug. Enjoy!
“Bored. Bored-bored. So bored. BOOOOORED!” The Hacker was laying upside down on the leather couch in the recreation room flipping through the three channels the dated TV had to offer. She pondered how any of the other mercs could live in this dated age. Eventually she tossed the remote on the other side of the couch, and grunted. “I’m so boooored...” she kicked her legs in the air expressing her restlessness. “You know,” a familiar voice called in from the hall as footsteps approached. “There are other things to do than just watch TV, right, Hacker?” The face of the Hunter appeared into the Hacker’s view, upside down as it may be. “If it involves me getting up, I’m not interested,” The younger girl retorted without changing her position. “It’s too hot to do anything outside, and everyone else is ‘busy’ doing stuff.” The girl crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly to get a better look at the older merc. “Too hot?” Hunter smirked. “That sounds like it could be solved with some ice cream,” she said in a convincing sing-song-y voice. Almost instantly the Hacker shot up on the couch and beamed at the Hunter excitedly. “Really? You mean it?” She looked ready to jump into the Hunter’s arms with glee. “Yep, consider it a girls night. I already asked Driver and she said she’d take us, as long as she got some, too.” “Oh my god! What are we waiting for?! I gotta put on some pants!” The Hacker leapt off of the couch and scrambled around as if she was going to finds spare pair of pants in the rec room. It was rare that the only girls on the team could chat without getting teased by the others. Luckily, one of them had a car. “You’re already wearing pants,” Hunter informed the excited girl, already heading towards the hall. “Come on, Driver’s probably waiting already.” “Oh my gosh, you’re right!” The Hacker smiled at noticing she did indeed have pants on. She followed the other merc into the hallway towards the garage, and took her hand, pulling her eagerly. “Let’s go, let’s go!” “Slow down, kid, the ice cream will still be there if we walk,” Hunter chuckled. Hacker didn’t seem to listen and pulled her further along. Driver was leaning casually against the McMann and humming a tune when she heard the eager chatter of the Hacker from the hall. She chuckled and stood up straight as the two other woman came rolling in. “Didn’t take her much convincing, eh?” Driver hollered, getting into her seat with keys in hand. “Nope,” Hunter laughed and guided the Hacker into the seat behind the passenger’s, then got into the passenger’s seat herself. “Why do you get shotgun?” Hacker argued pitifully. She buckled her seatbelt resentfully and slouched in her seat. She hadn’t yet been able to claim that seat for even a single trip, and she made sure everyone knew. She rarely bothered the Driver, though. Not a good idea to bug her unless you wanted tire tracks on your face. “Because I called it before we invited you.” “Fine, whatever.” “Alright,” Driver interrupted. “Ready? Oh wait, I gotta open the door.” Driver popped her door open to get to the garage door opener on the far wall, but the door seemed to have read her mind as it opened by itself. “Uhhh...” “Oh, sorry, that was me,” Hacker chuckled and displayed her hacking device in her hand. “Let’s go, I’ll close it on the way out.” “Huh, alright, then.” Driver shifted into gear and in seconds the McMann was already rolling out the door. As promised, the hacker closed the door behind them with a tap on her hacking device, and off they went. By the time they got into town, the driver slowed to a cross light. There were a few of them in the area, which was surprising since Teufort wasn’t a particularly large town. “Don’t slow down,” Hacker told Driver, poking her shoulder. “Kid, there’s a light-“ “I got it.” In a moment the stop light began to flicker before it became green. “See? Green means go!” The Hacker visibly bounced in her seat as she watched the traffic by the intersection screech to a halt. “Road’s all yours!” “You’re one dangerous kid, you know that?” Driver went through the light, along with the next few as they miraculously turned green as the McMann approached. “Y’all have no idea,” The Hacker chuckled and leaned back casually in her seat. As expected, it didn’t take long to get to the little diner on the edge of town. Driver parked in the largest spot she could find and turned off the engine. “Alright, we’re here. Woah, kiddo wait!” The Driver shouted at the youngest merc as she darted off into the diner. “Damn, she seems excited.” “Yep,” Hunter laughed. “Let’s get in there before she tries to rob the place or something.” “Good idea.” The two quickly followed suit and entered the diner to see her already giving her order to the startled mustached man at the ice cream bar. He seemed to be struggling in keeping up with the girls quick speech. “I want chocolate chip cookie dough, extra chips! Lemme get it in a shake, too! Extra whip cream! Like, I want it to be nearly spilling over the sides ‘n’ stuff! Ooh! Ooh! Add some chocolate sauce on it too! And sprinkles!” The Hacker had her hand on the class case and pointed at each individual ingredient as she mentioned it. The Hunter walked up behind the young mercenary and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Alright, that looks like enough for you, let us order now. Go find us a table will you?” “Okay,” The Hacker nodded and darted past Driver on the way to the tables. “Hey, get us a booth!” Driver shouted to the girl as she ran past. The Hacker gave a thumbs up before she rounded the corner into the dining area. Driver chuckled, and approached the other with her hands in her pockets.
