watching TFA and my impression of the first ten episodes is that everybody in this show has PTSD
.
My biggest pet peeve about the AO3 side of the fandom is that I hate the concept of continuity soup. I really do. There's nothing that makes me exit out of a fic faster than the sudden realization that the author is smashing together lore and details from a completely irrelevant media *without tagging it properly*. It's one thing to mix media together and be open about it, tagging it so that it can be filtered out—I'm ok with that! Because that's easy to avoid, and I mad appreciate the authors who do their due diligence when tagging properly. It's an entirely different problem when the only fandom tag you've added is Transformers Animated (2007) and for no fucking reason at all IDW concepts like shadow play and the *non-canon* council of senators or whatever is involved. It drives me insane! If I wanted to read a deconstruction of the fascist-Cybertron of IDW I would search for an IDW fic. *Not* a TFA fic. TFA has it's own bullshit Autobot society to deconstruct. I don't care when people mix their favorite parts of media together to create their own fan continuity because they tag it as, well, their fan continuity. That's easy to filter out. But continuity soup? It's so prevalent that it's almost impossible to find long-fics that are actually about and involve the sole media they claim they're *only* about. Don't like don't read can only go so far so long as the authors tag things properly... which they don't a good majority of the time...

in 2024 when i first became a fan of tf after watching tfone, i started to read fanfic without knowing anything from other shows... except animated which was my childhood transformers show which i vaguely remembered. i was so flabbergasted when i read my first non-tfone fanfic and prowl was an asshole bc i thought he was a chill environmentalist dude... in the meantime i was just imagining idw prowl's personality but with the aesthetics and design of tfa prowl in my head. it happened for a few months since i was slowly watching prime and rescue bots but i finally watched g1 after that. and it made me even more confused why fanfics made him an asshole bc g1 prowl is a cutie patootie and i didnt want to read tf comics :(((((

I am an Animated SUPERFAN don't get me wrong, but I hate when people treat the show like its totally perfect or put it up on a pedestal.

flattened swindle (tfa) still remains one of the funniest fucking things i have ever seen. i don’t even care if it’s a cheap gag it’s just absurdly hilarious to me
(hope it’s not too much to ask that mods attach the image in question? or a clip because it’s funnier in context to me)
"TFA Bee is child-coded."
Yeah pal, he's soooooo "child-coded" that the TFA writers had him blush when he was pinned by Prowl and have him sneak off to perform in wrestling matches with roided-up weirdos and be stripped down to have his identity stolen and be paralyzed by Blackarachnia as buildup to a joke and be vored by a rocklord and be violently stabbed by the show's actual child character and, not to mention, have the Constructicons lick up his fluids from an injury to comment on its sweetness.
Come on, you know no one on the TFA team would write a child into these scenarios. I just can't understand how anyone can leap to such conclusion like that, did you even watch the show at that point?
He was written as a rookie robot in a show about robots that fight villainy, he's just as much of an adult as the rest of them.

I wish more there are more TF verse that go the way TFA
Like, TFA is completely left field compare to other continuity, Optimus is a college dropout, Prowl is a draft-dodging hippie ninja, Bumblebee is also a college dropout but he dropped out in freshmen year with Bulkhead while Optimus was senior year, and Ratchet is just some nobody veteran medic
Even Megatron, sure he's the leader of the Decepticon but he didn't start the faction, he fought Megazarak
Everyone was just Some Guy who was put into Situations and they show that they can be more
