Oshamir fandom collectively lost it over @icapturedthecastle 's stunning AU The First Hit's Free and I'm no different you have bewitched me body and soul. I've never made fanart for fanfic before but sometimes a visual sticks with you so hard you can't help yourself

FYI! I will be pulling the First Hit's Free series from AO3 by the end of next month (6/25)!

I will be removing The First Hit's Free, Shadow in the Sun, and The Second Will Cost You from AO3 in the near future! If you were wanting to read them on the site, now is the time! If you are wanting to save them for later or have them on hand to re-read in the future, I recommend downloading them directly from AO3 by using the 'Download' function in the top right corner of the screen!

SOME HOUSEKEEPING:

First of all: what the hell, dude? Yeah, that's fair.

Does this mean that you're going to try to "file the serial numbers off" and publish this series as an original work? I personally am not a fan of the "lift and shift" approach of fic to pub approach, and that is not my intent for this series. Please do not hold your breath for the potential of seeing this series with only the names or minor details changed on the shelves someday. However, there are a lot of pieces of this series that I really love, and I'm really proud of, and I would like to try to incorporate into something original that can stand on its own someday. Hand in hand with that, I, like many authors, have become increasingly upset with the recent uptick in the content we make for free to share with a community being scraped and uploaded as a data training set for genAI without our consent. It's disturbing, and disheartening, and while taking this series down doesn't remove it from having been included in the past, it will prevent it from being included in any future scrapes, and that, at least, is a little bit of a comfort. Another instance of AI dorks ruining everything for the rest of us.

Are you okay with people sharing downloaded copies of these fics with other people, if they want to? Absolutely! Please feel free to share downloaded copies with one another, or print and bind them for your own personal use, etc.. And if this post makes it to you too late and you can't download a copy for yourself, feel free to message me here and I am happy to send you a copy.

Are you going to be removing any other fics in the future? I don't have any plans to at the moment, but it's possible! I don't think I'll ever nuke everything, but if the onslaught of scraping continues in the future, I might. I highly recommend downloading any and all fics that you enjoy and want to have the opportunity to reread, not just my own.

Lastly, and most importantly: thank you to everyone who has given this series so much love since the start. It was a truly wild experience for me, and I genuinely did not think it would catch on, or that many people would be into it, and I certainly never expected for it to become as loved as it was! All of your comments, questions, encouragements, artwork and playlists all genuinely mean the world to me, and I will cherish them, always. ♥️
